“Great location, apartments overall were pretty good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012 via mobile

Location couldn't get better - just up from the major shopping district of Bourke St mall and Melbourne Central and a short walk to the fabulous restaurants and bars of Melbourne, especially Flinders Lane. Rooms were nice - nothing special really. Bathroom was tiny and not thoughtfully laid out, and the bed was awful with a valley in the middle! Would have been great for one person but a but annoying for two. Quite noisy, even on the 19th floor, with a nightclub right underneath. Overall, pretty good place though and I would consider staying again on a weeknight.

We (2 adults, 2 children) stayed here for 3 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment. Everything is very clean and tidy. Kitchen has no oven, but has a microwave. Location is good, close to everything. We were on the 23rd floor so noise was not an issue that high up. Hotel seemed very busy so a sign that it is a popular choice for all kinds of travellers. Would highly recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room to minimise noise.

Citadines hotel rates itself quite highly, but should really be about 2 and a half stars. The design of the rooms is odd - the bathroom basin in in the living area, and you step through the toilet to go to the shower. You cannot watch the TV from the sofa, you need to sit on the bed.
There is no lobby bar, and in fact when I asked reception for a glass of water to take panadol for a headache I was told to go to my room for water.
This is a hotel for business travelers who need no privacy in their rooms (like Ibis) but want to be in town. The location is good.

Room Tip: Dont stay on the second floor - its really noisy from about 5am!

Bryan L, Manager at Citadines on Bourke Melbourne, responded to this review, August 27, 2012
Dear Rachel M,

Thank you for your recent patronage of Citadines on Bourke Melbourne, and also for your comments concerning your stay.

Whilst we are delighted that our central location enhanced your visit to Melbourne, we are disappointed that your overall stay was less than satisfactory, and we appreciate the opportunity to respond to your feedback,

The design of our Studio accommodation allows greater flexibility and convenience, so that when the shower or toilet is occupied, a second occupant can use the stand-alone sink. Each television in our Studio accommodation is mounted on a swivel, allowing the screen to be positioned for enjoyment in either the bedroom or the sitting area. As a serviced residence, and not a traditional hotel, you correctly highlight the absence of a dedicatd cocktail bar, although the on-site Heirloom Restaurant offers a bar with an extensive selection of beverages.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns, should you wish. In that event, please e-mail me your contact details at bryan.loh@the-ascott.com to facilitate this.

Thank you once making Citadines Melbourne your home away from home.

Your sincerely,

Bryan Loh

It's nicely located in the central, very near Chinatown if you love Asian food. Good quality of sleep and clean room. The staff are very friendly, always greeting with smiles.
However, the "makeup room service is definitely not great/excellent. Yes, new towels are placed during housekeeping but the used ones still remains in the bathroom.

I would say this is a OK stay.

We stayed here for two nights in August. For a 4.5 star hotel, it was OK. The rooms were very modern - a bit too modern and might not suit all an example of this is the bathroom. The shower and toilet were in a closed room (tiny..) but the basin was outside of this room which adjoins the living room...so having a private moment to brush your teeth etc is not so private.

We stayed in a Standard studio which had ample space for two people.

The location was the stand out feature of the hotel, outside it's doors was the tram stops for 86 and 96, 5 minute walking distance to the main mall, and its near little Collins street for boutique shopping.

Would recommend this hotel room for business, but not for a romantic getaway. If your after a romantic getaway there are other hotels in Melbourne for the same price.

Room Tip: ask for higher floors if you don't want to look at the office block next door

We recently had a meeting at Citadines on Bourke Street for 15 people and I found the rooms and the meeting space absolutely delightful. Have you ever been to hotel for a meeting and wished you could come back to the same hotel for a holiday? This was my experience at the Citadines. The room was spacious and had absolutely everything you needed. It is a gem of a place!

Room Tip: My room on the 4th floor was perfect in every way - very quiet, clean and comfortable.

Could not be happier than to stay here. It is very central to everything - trams, buses and a 5 minute walk to Federation Square and 15 to the sports complexes. Stayed for 9 nights in a studio deluxe apartment. Quiet, clean ,with the staff very obliging and helpful. Pool is pleasant and the gym fitted with the basics. Prices compare very favourably with other accommodation of a similar rating. Will stay here again.
