Never withdrawn a book there but always good to look at the architecture and visit the reading room.

“Page to Stage - Fabulous Exhibition”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014 NEW

We had our tickets for the stage show of Les Miserables and this exhibition just set the scene for a wonderful day of Victor Hugo. The exhibition is one of he best I have been to. You are transported back to the revolution, seeing costumes, some of the 42 movies made of Les Mis, and the rest of the library is an experience that I will treasure. Good value tickets and I think I'd go again

“Victor Hugo”

We visited the Les Miserables exhibition that is on loan from France and were very impressed with all the displays. Just wish we had more time to spend in there.

“Excellent exhibitions, beautiful building!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014 NEW

As a retired librarian, I often take a busman's holiday and check out the local library when on holiday, especially as they often have good and free exhibitions to see. Inside, the building is reminscent of the BM's round reading room, and it's beautiful. The galleries host exhibitions relevant to the world of scholarship and books, and Melbourne's history shown through the archival material held by the library. I saw Mirrors of the world: books and ideas, and also the changing face of Victoria, plus one or two other smaller permanent exhibitions. The café attached to the library produced a welcome cuppa and the souvenir shop had some useful items, as well as books!. It was possible to wander through much of the library building, and there is an open lounge area to pick up wifi and chat, and check the online catalogues though I did not go in to the reading rooms themselves. There are lockers available for a small fee if you want to leave gear whilst in the building.
