“More than meets the eye”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

This building looks impressive from the outside, and is excellently maintained on the inside. There is a grand dome above the La Trobe reading room which is very impressive, and you can also go up to the balcony to have a look from higher up. The dome also has 2 levels of galleries about Melbourne's history and the world's history too, including the infamous Ned Kelly's suit of armour.

“Library. Nothing more, nothing less.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

It's a beautiful building on the outside but once you get in it's not very special. Many people there though, must be handy for travellers without a laptop.

“Beautiful original Library”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Hidden in the new Library is the original. It is beautiful and grand. There is a glorious dome and it is about five stories high. Worth a visit and a great photo.

“Visit the La Trobe Reading Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Fantastic building- so busy in some rooms and so peaceful in others. If you're into architecture you will love it. Great coffe shop there too.

“Excellent centre for resource and research”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

A spontaneous trip to the State Library showed us what a wonderful centre for learning it is.
Magnificent building and architecture the reading room with the dome six floors above is something to be seen.
Excellent galleries with art work, books, historical exhibitions, including Ned Kelly's armour, archives of records and newspapers.
A great venue to take children, or to just observe, and research.
