“Good value - will be a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2010

This hotel is quite new in an area that is being 'made over'. Not yet but very soon will be a great range of restaurants and then it will be a superb place to stay. As it is it is right next door to Etihad Stadium, across the road from Southern Cross Station and a short walk to Southbank.

Rooms were small but well laid out. We were able to get two adjoining rooms which were joined by an internal door. It's true that the restaurant is a bit cafe style but that is the look it was designed for. Staff were very helpful. Good value hotel.

i got a really good deal for this hotel on booking.com. the property seemed new & the rooms were amazing, clean & the beds were large & comfortable. the toilets were neat but the shower cubicle was small for me & a bit uncomfortable. no good restaurants nearby & if you want to grab a bite after 8 pm you would have to walk a fair distance. in the morning the location is convenient as the free tram stop is only 5 min from the hotel. crowne casino is also close by. the restaurants close to the hotel are very expensive. DFO at south wharf is close to the hotel & a great place to shop for discounts. harbour front shopping looks very trendy

Hotel- Clean and comfortable bed.
Location- Need a bit of walking to CBD or tram stations are available at Colin Street or city city circle tram at Flinders Street. It's good if you need to to use Southern Cross Station where it's just a 5 mins walk. For those who have heavy luggages can use the elevator(located just before the staircase) at the parking facility next to the hotel to Colin Street/Southern Cross Station.
Breakfast- Adequate but same spread during our stay from Oct 9-13 and Oct 17-18. We had 2 day-tours on Oct 11 & 12, our hotel pick-up was at 6:50 am and the breakfast was not ready by then. The restaurant was supposed to be opened at 6:30am but the staff just started to come in by 6:40am. We had to go empty stomach for the 1st day but managed to pack some breads and jams on the 2nd day. FYI guests from Travelodge Docklands are the 1st to be picked up for the day tour.
Facility- Self serviced laundry available at lobby for AUD3 a wash and AUD3 for drying. PC with Internet connection is also at lobby for AUD2 for 20 mins. Allowed us to store our luggages when we left for Tasmania for 5 days.
I have difficulties in uploading some of the hotel's photos here but if you are interested, you can view the photos here; http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2054863&id=1579624100&fbid=1399231592368

Yes, the location is a little obscure - trust me, it pays to ask for directions to the lift before you go up and down 60+ external stairs over and over again - but we were thrilled with this hotel. Spencer Street Station, and therefore airport buses, taxis, trains and trams, are about a three-minute walk from the Travelodge - and if you're there for an event at Etihad, it's basically across the road.

We took advantage of their 'opening special' rate and booked a 4-night stay - one of the best bargains we've ever booked. The room was a good size, everything was basically new and in fantastic condition, the bed was massive - and so comfortable! - the TV was big (with a decent array of free Foxtel channels and a huge list of movies on demand for $14.95 each), the bathroom was lovely, there were lots of clothes hangers in the cupboard, there were good-sized mugs (not those horrible little cups and saucers!), tall glasses, wine glasses, dinnerset, microwave, cutlery ... and all appliances were also new (including a microwave - bonus!). We were given a top-floor room with reasonable views, and for the purpose of our stay the location was perfect. The attention to detail was impressive - everything is beautifully clean, and they were painting the hallway walls on our floor while we were there. Lobby internet terminals were $1 for 10 mins and had a printer attached (handy for airline check-in).

Cons: no decent shelves for clothing so we lived out of our suitcase; aircon vent was noisy and grinding from at times; no handtowel and only one facewasher (although when we asked for more supplies they arrived quickly); reception staff generally aloof; and ongoing noisy construction in the surrounding area (not that the hotel could control this - it was just noticeable a lot of the time).

If we could get a good rate again we wouldn't hesitate to stay here in future. The convenience in terms of being close to transport (and Spencer St shopping complex) was brilliant - not quite 'in amongst the action' but fantastic if you want a home-base from which to shop, sightsee, hop on a tram, get to the airport, etc. Highly recommended.

We had a standard king room and it was immaculate. Very comfortable. The location in Docklands is excellent - you are pretty well walking distance to all that Docklands has to offer. It is also a nice, quiet location. The only hiccup we had was with the parking. We chose to use the hotel parking which cost $19 we didn't mind because we thought we would have direct access to the hotel from the carpark. Not so. Whilst the entrance to the parking is just around the corner from the hotel, you can’t exit from there on foot to get back to the hotel. You actually have to walk a fair distance, exiting through another building to get back to the hotel. Not miles, but you may as well park opposite at Wilson Parking for $8 a day (weekends) and save a few dollars. Also when we were leaving we paid for our parking at the hotel, had our ticket validated and at the exit our ticket was accepted as paid, the barrier raised for us to proceed but the roller door did not open and we were stuck. We pressed the assist button, but nobody responded. Fortunately for us approx 10 minutes later the roller door opened because someone was coming in to park and we took that opportunity to drive out. Apart from that - LOVED the hotel. At the price we paid, we would definitely stay again.

very good and clean hotel . excellent location . helpful front office staff especially for a tourist going for first time . one caution , pl book rooms thru Indian travel portals as we did -- we got good rates -- if you book in their portal, rates are higher , and direct booking rate is even more .
many food options are available across the road and that is a big plus

The hotel was very new as I read from the Internet it just opened ard Feb 2010. It was clean and has simple contemporary style. The room I stayed had tea making facilities, with microwave oven, food utensils, mini fridge and clothes iron. I wouldn't say the staff were warm and friendly, but courteous enough. The breakfast spread was similar everyday, which gets kinda boring. The location was just 7-8 minutes walk away from Flinders St., 5 mins walk away fr Etihad Stadium, and 8-10 minutes walk away from Southern Cross Station. It was not right in the middle of the city bustle, but near enough to be convenient. Though you had to walk a few blocks away (5-8 mins walk) for any convenience shops or restaurants.
