“Predictable - but warning - about 15 min walk from skybus at southern cross....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

But - warning - for those who think it's really close to Southern Cross Station - you've got at least a 10-15 minute walk from the skybus area to the hotel. Most of that walk is out in the open - so be prepared for Melbourne bad weather!
And - it's a wee walk from most things to do. Unless you're off to Etihad - then it's perfect.

Tip - locate the elevators off the walkway from Southern Cross - on the right - just before you go down the stairs - well worth knowing about.

Staff upon my arrival and checkout were friendly. Room comfortable (it's a pretty new hotel - so things aren't worn yet).

Carparking is available in a nearby building - but it's at least a 5 min walk from the hotel.

Dear T K

Thanks for taking the time to review Travelodge Docklands.

If it has taken you 15 minutes to walk from Southern Cross Station to the hotel I fear you have gone the wrong way. The hotel is adjacent Southern Cross Station across the footbridge over Wurrundjeri Way. A map of the locale is available on our confirmation letter or our website.

Kind Regards

I arrived with my seven year old son at 12:40 am,. The check in staff were exceptional and very kind to my tired son.. The room had a king size bed, couch and most importantly for family travellers a microwave and plates or room service. It was an easy 10 minute walk from Souther Cross Station, brilliant location. The occasional toot from the trains at Southern Cross may be an issue but it wasn't for me, Will be using this hotel now for my regular visits to Melbourne.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask to have a room on the side away from Southern Cross Station.

Located just a short stroll to Etihad Stadium this is perfect for those wanting to attend an event. Price is excellent and the rooms are modern, clean and all you could need. It's still easy walking to docklands and its many restaurants, whilst the casino is only a 10-15 stroll away.

Nice hotel, good decor, rooms clean, spacious. Depending on what you are doing in Melbourne the location can be either good or hopeless. If you are attending a concert in Etihad Stadium etc. this hotel is worth the while.
For other Melbourne trips I would prefer a more central location.
I thought parking was a bit expensive - but I guess that is what you get with a location in Docklands.
Staff were okay and efficient.
Sometimes tour groups get dropped off in the hotel; if it is a group of youngsters, you might experience some noise during the evening/night.
Would stay again if they have a good offer and if I needed to be somewhere close to the hotel.

Otherwise I prefer St. Kilda or CBD stay.

I usually stay in a hotel closer to the mall area of Melbourne but I was travelling for work and this was close. If you don't know Melbourne you may feel a bit out of the centre of things but it is close to South Bank for restaurant, Casino etc.

The room was clean and modern and there was nothing offensive, ie, loud air conditioners, or other noise or smells. The price was good.

I decided to order the room service menu so ordered the burger meal. I'm not that fussy but the bun was stale and the filling was some kind of disgusting patty that seemed like it had been microwaved. Generally awful and inedible.

Dear dulcieb

Thank you for taking the time to post this positive review on Travelodge Docklands. I am glad you generally enjoyed your stay.

Regarding room service - our hamburger patties are oven cooked and not microwaved. Thanks for letting us know it wasn't all it could be. I am ensuring the quality is improved going forward.

I hope you choose to stay with us again.

The rooms are pretty small. Having a shower I noticed black hairs in the bottom of the shower, (not mine). The dining area is like a mess hall, tables of 8-10 on outdoor plastic tables and chairs. The chairs were pretty grubby. Breakfast was supposed to be included but they did not have a record of it at breakfast. Went back to our room and rang reception to confirm that breakfast was included which it was. The hotel is opposite Southern Cross Station and near Etihad Stadium. The traffic is pretty heavy around the area and could hear it from our room during peak.

Room Tip: Like everywhere in a major city, the higher you go the less street and traffic noise you will get.

We stayed in the Travelodge Docklands for the Grand Prix weekend and had expectations which were met having stayed in this hotel three times before.

The only downside to the stay was the bill on checkout. On arrival the minibar was not fully stocked and instead of taking photos we just ignored it and went to Woolworths around the corner as it would be cheaper. On checking out though we were charged for most of the unstocked items (presumably used by the previous guest). As a result the bill was larger than expected. We queried it and some of the charges were reversed, only to find that the same day we were then recharged for them on the credit card as a separate transaction. In future, when staying I would recommend either taking a photo or video of arrival into the room then informing reception immediately if any items on the minibar list are missing otherwise they will just charge you for them.

Disappointing way to end the stay but would probably stay here again due to the convenience.

Dear Minitagg

Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay overall however I am dissapointed that a billing mixup spoiled your stay a little. I hope it was resolved in the end - if not I would urge you to contact me directly so that we can rectify it.
