Pros
- Good clean room though it is small
- Very good location
- Price wise good as well
Cons
- Service almost non existent

If you are looking to roam around in Melbourne without spending too much time in the room, then this a very good option.
Only thing I would recommend to this hotel would be to atleast have bottled water in the hotel which people can buy.

we booked this online and although it was in the centre of clubland it was okay for our stay. The room was a bit small but you get what you pay for. Staff were helpful and Breakfast was good. When we were there the lift broke so it kept us fit climbing 4 flights of stairs.

Room tip: higher up the quieter

The Hotel seems to have had some recent renovations and had strong new paint smell. Room was tidy and simple as expected for the low cost. However the water pressure in the basin was little more than a dribble (shower was ok though), and the TV remote was also intermittent. The housekeeping was inconsistent with the first day being quite good, but most days bins not emptied and seemingly just the bed remade. This could all be easy enough to live with as it's in a great CBD location, however the worst thing is the bed. The Mattress had uneven, sloping and lumpy sections that made it impossible to sleep comfortably unless in the sweet spot and in a particular position, not ideal for couples. The location might make it most suited to overnight stays (bucks nights / hens nights) where people are probably going to be so drunk when they get back to the room they could sleep on anything. It is also a short stumble from that end of town with those sort of event venues and Southern Cross Station. The hotel seems to be getting some renovations at the moment so may improve in the future. An acceptable mattress and consistent room service would have made it to maybe 3 star, but I think 4 is fair way off the mark at the moment. I don't think we will return to find out though. We did not try the food, room service or internet so can't comment on those.

Room tip: Not sure about other rooms.

We spent two nights in Hotel Sofia, after a satisfying experience two years ago. Unfortunately, we were this time very disappointed by the quality of the hotel in general and its staff in particular. Rooms, although clean, are very noisy, there is a door between most of them (all of them according to the staff), so that you can hear your neighbors as if they were in yours. After the first night, when we asked for changing room, the staff ensured us that nobody was expected in the adjacent room and that they wouldn't make any check-in...We were extremely upset to state that all of this was a lie, due to the arrival of guests in the evening...The Wi-Fi is not very fast and quite expensive, whereas this is supposed to be a "plus" of the hotel. Finally, don't expect any kind of service from the staff, each time we asked something (eg. talking to the manager, scanning documents...), the answer was NO or anything pretty vague...For sure, we'll never go there again.

SOFIA'S WON'T REFUND US OUR DEPOSIT ($150) OR ROOM ($95.50) WHEN WE DIDN'T STAY! We booked into Sofia's having stayed before. However this time the room was small, and in poor condition (e.g. toilet roll holder broken off). The room smelt and when the airconditioner was turned on it made it worse. We rang and asked reception if they had another room and was told they were full and could do nothing. We rang around and got another booking (at the Travelodge) and then advised reception we would not be staying. The receptionist told us she could not refund the night's accommodation as she didn't have authority - and to send an email to the address she provided. She said the $150 deposit we had put on credit card (in case of bar and nibbles consumption) would be refunded the following day. So far we have heard nothing!!!!! Is anyone else having a similar experience?

Room tip: Don't stay here if you want to get ripped off - has anyone else experience this recently? They won't refund night's accommodation - $95.50 (we didn't stay) and won't refund the deposit - $150 !!!!!!!!!!!!
