“two nights in Studio room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Thought the Olsen was quite a nice hotel. The room was beautifully finished and very modern in design. I was staying in a Studio, so there was a small galley kitchen that was well equipped.
The bathroom was a little small, with opaque glass walls separating it from the rest of the room. Nice and stylish looking, but not so good when the person you are with gets up early and turns on the lights! But that was a very minor annoyance.
Complementary tea from T2 was a nice touch, as was the better than average selection of stuff in the mini-bar, including multi-vitamins! The bed was really comfy, with super-soft pillows.
The restaurant downstairs was quite good, though a little expensive, and had very nice breakfast options.

a great place to stay. We keep going back as the location for us is perfect. The gym is good but machines need a service. Parking is a let down. When you pre book and pre pay for a spot you should have one not have to leave the vehicle on the street until one comes available. Rooms are clean and beds a good size

Spent nearly a whole week here and had an absolute ball. All the staff were fantastic. Before arriving i asked if i could be put on a higher level and sure enough i was on checking in. Definitely recommend to anyone staying in Melbourne.

We stayed 5 nights in a studio room which included breakfast and selected this hotel because of it's location and the positive reviews. I enjoyed it but my husband wasn't so keen. We have stayed in a number of studio style rooms recently (at the Meriton and Fraser Suites) and they are at least 50% larger if not more generous, it did feel boxy and the bathroom was small.
Positives;
- we had an excellent check-in exp with genuinely friendly staff member and generally found the front desk accomodating and helpful
- great location, close to shops, restaurants, transport, supermarkets, cinema's and so much variety
- nice mini bar, teas
- enjoyed breakfast which was included, good variety and nice atmosphere
- nice linen on beds
Negatives
- small room
- lift conjestion, also, only 3 lifts so when they are servicing rooms you often get taken on a milk run OR share the lift with the staff and trolleys, or wait a bit
- need to improve housekeeping, it's the little things that make a 5 star and these guys obviously struggle in this area, just missed the finer points
- I found the bed a little on the soft side
Missed not having a spa/sauna. The pool is open air so really only a summer time thing and it's not huge but has a roof top garden which would be fun in summer time

Room Tip: We were on 12th floor which was nice and quite

Spent an evening in one of the Spa Suites. Loved the outdoor Jacuzzi. The room was pleasant and decor was contemporary and quirky. A great place to stay if you want something special and different. Heading back there in a couple of weeks! Can't wait!

I was excited to stay at The Olsen after reading about the three Art Series hotels. And to be honest it was fine, but for the prices they charge it should have been more than fine. Firstly most of the reception staff were lovely but one girl who was checking us and, made a mistake on the final account and was then rude and dismissive to us when we asked her to correct it, was not okay. The rooms were nice but and comfortable but we found they just weren't as clean as they could have been. I also rang down three, yes three times to ask for a vase to be brought up and after trying on day 2 it finally appeared. I realise these things are picky and I probably would stay there again as the location is great, the beds are very comfy, as are the pillows and most of the staff were great. But sometimes a few little things spoil the experience. Oh and the cleaning equipment was left in the hallways all day - which we thought was odd. Plus doors to supply rooms left wide open day and night!

Room Tip: We stayed in the two bedroom suite and it was nice and big with a lovely view.

Having stayed at the Art Series hotels on a few previous occasions, I was looking forward to my stay at the Olsen.

Upon arrival, we were greeted (I use the term loosely) by a female member of staff who was not at all inviting. As we arrived early, we were informed that a room was not available, so we left to find some breakfast and await a phone call of a room being ready. We received a call around 1pm informing us that our room was ready and we once again dealt with the same member of staff upon check-in, who had no idea of who we were when we came back. We were told our bags were in our room, however when we got there, they had not been brought up...so had to follow this up with reception.

We were put in what must have been a disability access room, I don't mind it so much, however the bathroom was not a luxurious and inviting as my previous stays with this hotel group. There were a few other (small) issues with this room...blood staining on one of the curtains and loose door fittings on the cupboards.

On a positive note, the bed and furnishings were very comfortable as always. The selection of tea's were nice and the mini bar pricing is quite reasonable. I also like the large wall mounted TV for those lazy mornings.

I really like the Art Series Hotels, however this stay has me thinking some improvement can be made in the area of customer service and maintenance.

Room Tip: Rooms facing towards Toorak Rd can be a bit noisy, especially on the lower levels.
