“Classy hotel - good location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

I stayed in the Blackman in January, 2013 for a long stay. Hotel does not have a swimming pool but does have a little gym (very nice, but small). The rooms are clean and spacious. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Very close to the trams (2 minute walk) and these trams can take you to St. Kilda beach, Chapel Street, or the CBD. Good location and good value for money. The hotel is basically a gallery for Charles Blackman so they have all his paintings on the wall - so, you may or may not like them. There is an Italian hotel and a cafe in the hotel as well.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay with us at the Blackman. It sounds like you had a lovely time, or which I am pleased to hear.
We are honoured to have our hotel named after Charles Blackman, and to have his artwork thoroughout the hotel. We do hope that you will come and stay with us again when next in Melbourne.
Warm regards,

We were shown great generosity on account of our wedding anniversary in being upgraded to a suite with superb views over to the bay. A complimentary bottle of champagne capped off a memorable stay. Lovely young staff who with enthusiasm try to attend to your every need, are a great asset to the Blackman. The location on St Kilda Rd is great as the CBD, Botanical gardens, Art Galleries and Southbank are a short tram ride away. One little suggestion to the owners is a plea to rethink the $25 a night charge for parking. Surely when you own the building, there is no need to cream this extra from your guests. I expect this exhorbitant charge from Sydney CBD hotels where you park in neighbouring privately owned carparks but surely not from the Blackman, Olsen and Cullen.

Room Tip: Heard no noise as excellent sound proofing, heat and cooling

On all of my previous trips to Melbourne, I've tended to stay in the CBD. For something different, my wife searched for a property outside the CBD, and upon reading the reviews for the Blackman, didn't hesitate in booking. The hotels lived up to all of the reviews.

Conveniently located on St Kilda Road with easy and regular tram services to the CBD, St Kilda and beyond, it is serviced by both a restaurant and French patisserie on the bottom floor.

The front desk - and we dealt with several - were all polite, ready to help and personable.

The rooms are large and spacious, complete with an enormous and comfortable bed. I didn't realise upon booking that the room is also fitted out with its own kitchenette, which was an added bonus.

I'm not much for mini-bars usually, but my interest was piqued with their advertisement that their mini-bar prices are indeed mini. Everything on offer from alcohol, soft drink and snacks were at prices akin to a supermarket, a welcome change, but not something I imagine will be adopted by most hotels!

Our room was rounded out with a view over the Melbourne CBD and out to the MCG.

When not staying in the Melbourne CBD, I'll be back to the Blackman.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a view - we were on the 11th floor, and the view towards the city is well worth i...

I've stayed 3 nights at The Blackman Hotel and loved it... was supposed to stay just 1 night after a long flight from London and change to friends place but I couldn't leave the hotel... The staff was very helpful and friendly, the location was perfect, I got a BEAUTIFUL suite and all the art around the hotel makes it even more fascinating! I will definitely go back!

Room Tip: Get a suite, it is worth it!

Stayed here for three nights. Very elegant and indulgent. Artwork is fantastic. Staff were professional and helpful. Room was lovely-luxurious king sized bed. Close to tram line. Highly recommend staying here-it's earnt it's 5 star rating. French pattiserie downstairs was wonderful-they sell some delightful Petit Fours and great coffee also.

Love the artwork & attention to detail! Staff were very helpful in allowing us to store our push bikes in lockable storage and also allowed us to park our 4WD in secure staff parking as it was too high for guest parking. Great location-not too far from city & readily accessible by trams & close access to freeway. Would definitely recommend!!!
