“Sleeping on clouds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2011 via mobile

The most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. My third stay and the big, soft pillows and thick, luxurious doona over a cloud like bed, make this the most restful hotel I have ever visited.
No road noise or sounds from adjoining rooms. Large, clean rooms with balconies overlooking the Lake or City, each with a good size balcony.
Efficient, unpretentious staff.
Can't wait for my next stay! Perfect!

Thankyou very much for your positive review on the Hotel. The owners of the group spent many hours with a bedding manufacturer to create the Art Series Signature bedding range, and we are so glad you enjoyed it.

The many aspects you have mentioned, is appreciated and we are so happy that you are looking forward to another stay with us.

Kind regards,

This hotel was just lovely. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive at all times. The room was just plain gorgeous. The bed was very hard to get out off, the doona kept refusing to let me get up. And the view was lovely the style of the rooms with the beautiful art was superb. i would stay here again in a flash.

Room Tip: Any of the corner rooms have extra good views.

Thankyou very kindly for your wonderful feedback. I am so glad to hear that the staff were attentive and overall you had positive stay.

It is also great to hear that the bedding achieved what it was set out to do, making it "hard to get out of".

We look forward to having you stay with us again in the future.

The Blackman hotel is the kind of boutique hotel experience that is hard to find in Australia. If you've ever stayed at the Emporium Hotel in Brisbane, it's just as good (if not a little better)! My husband and I spotted a super keen deal online and managed to find ourselves in the Penthouse for our Saturday night stay. It was beautiful - decked out with three leather sofas, a wrap around balcony, private spa, walk-in wardrobe and full kitchen. Nearly every inch of wall space throughout the rooms and in the hotel halls and lobby are covered with Charles Blackman prints. The service was excellent and I was even treated with a complimentary bottle of sparkling for my birthday! P.S. If you go to stay, don't go past the little French cafe Fleur on the ground floor. Have the French toast for breakfast - you won't regret it!

Room Tip: Ask for a view over Albert Park - you can see all the way out to the port.

I wanted to thankyou for your very kind review. I was pleased to read your comments about the hotel and your stay.

Our Penthouses have only newly had some furniture changed over so I am so happy to hear you enjoyed it.

There are so many aspects of your review that brings a smile to my face and your comments will be shared with the team. It is exciting to hear the staff, the room and the restaurants were able to deliver a "glamorous" stay for you and your husband.

We look forward to having you stay with us again in the future

Warmest regards,

Stayed in a one bedroom suite, and the place was immaculate, nice size rooms and balcony was a good size. Bathroom is pretty tight, but that is being really picky, it was really nice though.

Location wise it is very good, short cab into the city or stkilda, not far from botantic gardens and Albert park.

Staff were friendly and did give me a late checkout without any dramas

It was pretty pricey, so based on value for money is the reason I gave it 4 out of 5.

The hotel is only 12 months old and everything looks as new. The hotel is completely filled with cool art from Charles Blackman which creates a unique atmosphere that is not often seen in a hotel. Great facilities and plenty of room. The furniture is state-of-the art and the service is excellent. Extra services such as internet and parking are not expensive. The staff is very enthousiastic and fit well in the trendy and modern art atmosphere. Really enjoyed staying here, I picked this hotel based on earlier tripadvisor reviews and would recommend anyone to stay here for the perfect Melbourne experience. One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.

We really got lucky when we booked this accommodation. The hubby did a search through Wego and ended up booking through Agoda. We paid $93AUD for the Penthouse suite! Lucky or what!!!
We had a family engagement party to attend in Albert Park, so we drove. When I inquired about parking our car ($25 per night), we decided to park it out on the street as there was AMPLE parks. And because it's just off St. Kilda Road (which has 2 lanes of parking in each direction) as well as the Arthur Street parking spots, we found a place without any hassles what so ever. It is also in the nice area, no dodgy looking folk around, all nice flash new cars, no concerns and it was FREE (bonus).
There are 2 penthouse suites, we got the one that looks out from the top of Albert Park Lake, Mt. Macedon in the distance, sweeping across the city, MCG, Rod Laver Arena, Fawkner Park, across Richmond and out to Mt. Dandenong and just shy of the Alfred Hospital.
Shortly after we checked into our room, the Ambulance Helicopter flew in with a poor soul, just outside the huge floor to ceiling windows and doors... Sad, but incredible sight to see (country folk for you, simple things amuse simple minds)...
We looked straight down over St. Kilda Road. Great because we could keep an eye out on our car and anyone else around. Great penguin (city workers) watching.

To describe the room, it's basically just one REALLY LARGE room consisting of dining table, kitchen/breaky bar with stools and lounge immediately in front and to the right, all surrounded by floor to ceiling windows and doors with the roll down mesh blinds. Immediately to the left is the bathroom. It is small, room enough for one person at a time. Very nice and new and well set out, but small. And then off that and the side of the dining area is the bedroom. Great king bed, which pretty much fills the room with it's own huge flat screen TV and nice ottoman to sit on at the foot of the bed. And then backing onto the bathroom wall is the walk in robe. Nice, big and clean with the iron, built in shoe racks, safe etc. Just beautiful (if I can describe a W.I.R. like that).
The only negative I really found was there was heaps of down lights, just in the wrong location. To apply make-up, forget the bathroom as the lighting is bad, so I used the full length mirror behind bedroom door. You could adjust the door forward or back, depending on what side of your face you were attacking...
The kitchen is new and fancy. It has a built in dishwasher, hidden washing machine, fancy coffee machine, separate kettle, flash fridge with inbuilt computer function wine chiller etc. Great double sink, full kitchen (stove, oven, dishes, cutlery, microwave etc). You could easily set up base here and LIVE like a king!
The carpet was really nice too. Penthouse - you would expect that, but nice. Quirky furniture and art etc., but at least it wasn't boring to be in. The more you looked, the more you discovered.
Check in was a breeze. Lifts are small, but a few people and some suitcases, there's more than enough space. There are also 3 lifts constantly running. You hear no one, see minimal people and it felt like they were empty. I asked on check in and they were 93% full expecting to be 100% full with in the hour. I can see why!
When we woke up, we found out that they had a marathon being run along St. Kilda Road. To be woken by 3 helicopters (different TV channels) hovering just outside your room... Awesome!
When we checked out, we shared the lift down with a really nice American bloke...
Turns out the rich and FAMOUS like to stay here too... Very famous!
I just giggle that we had the Penthouse... Ahhhhhh and the price... Mmmmmm
Oh, they were also in the process of installing an outdoor spa on the balcony of the Penthouse...
There is a 7/11 on our side of St. Kilda Road just down from McDOnalds and Subway (on the other side of St. Kilda Road).
So muchies weren't too far away, or coffee if you were too lazy to use the machine...
Great location. Very easy to get in and out. Close enough to the city (trams just outside), but far enough away to feel safe and glamorous. We didn't hear any sirens from the bedroom. It also has the mesh roll down blinds, but also black-out curtains that DO blackout and quieten the room...
Don't hesitate to book this accommodation, even if it's not the Penthouse. I said to the hubby, if we ever have to come and stay in Melbourne again, we would look really had for a deal to stay here again... Just brilliant!
Also worth looking direct with them...
They don't have any maps that you can use to negotiate Melbourne in the rooms, but simple ones from downstairs...

I stayed in the Blackman hotel for 2 days for my business trip to Melbourne. The location was great as my head office is in Albert road, which is only a walking distance from the hotel. The room was really nice and the bed, i have to say the bed was so comfortable. The balcony was so convenient for somkers. Great facility to make yourself a couple of coffee or tea and then sitting on the balcony to view the sun set. Going back to Melbourne this Thursday and Friday and cannot wait to checkin the blackman hotel again.
