“Modern apartment with transport at your doorstep”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2012 via mobile

Stayed at Punthill grand during the Australian open tennis , south yarra railway station and tram stop is 100 mts away making this location perfect to use public transport to all venues .Cannot fault the rooms,we were on the 12 th floor with fantastic views , very modern decor with comfortable beds and full kitchen .Hotel staff were keen to help with all requests . ,cannot fault this hotel in any way barring tariff ramped up during special events , but worth the money

Dear ryno1300

Thanks so much for leaving your feedback on Tripadvisor.

The veiw from our high floors in magic. Depending on which side of the building you are staying on it will either be sweeping views accross to the Mount Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne or Port Phillip Bay.

Our blend of style, comfort and service (and location!) has made some very happy guests whom we see back on a regular basis. We hope to see you back again soon too.....

Thanks again.

I personally found this property very good for the price. Location is excellent being within quick walking distance to tram and train services, restraunts cafes and all manner of shopping. We had a one bedroom apartment, the living area comprising of combined kitchen and lounge area was comfortable. as was the bedroom with ensuite bathroom. Front counter service was efficient with staff allowing us to store luggage after checkout for a few hours whilst we got some extra Christmas shopping done before catching our flight back home. The apartment was serviced daily, fresh towels and bathroom cleanup etc. Again good for the price. We have booked to stay again in February and if the apartment and customer service experience is equal to this stay I will be very pleased.

Thank you very much for the feedback Janny_9.

We place a big emphasis on customer service and its always great to hear back from our guests about their experience at South Yarra Grand.

Its a huge benefit having such a great choice of transport only a short walk away from the property. Our South Yarra location is only 10 minutes from Melbourne CBD by train and a nice address to come home to after a busy day in town shopping....

We hope to see you again.

Kind regards

Keiran

For first time visitors to Melbourne, especially with families, its worth noting that there's a plethora of serviced apartments in Melbourne for both short and long term let. These apartments include kitchenette's and laundry facilities in the room which is great if you're traveling with the family. I have got so used to the convenience of only travelling with hand luggage to Australia and doing my own laundry, that I haven't stayed in a hotel room in Melbourne for over 10 years.

What sets Punthill South Yarra Grand apart from its numerous competition is definitely its location. Situated in South Yarra, one of the more stylish suburbs of Melbourne, it is only four train stops from Melbourne City Centre. Its about a 35 minute ride from Melbourne International Airport (Tullamarine). Melbourne still does not have a train connection from the Airport to the City but its well served by buses. A cheaper option to get to the Serviced Apartment would be to take a bus into the City and take a train to South Yarra. The Apartments are literally 3 minutes from the train station.

Check in was painless and as I had booked using wotif, I had already prepaid for my accommodation. The Apartments are relatively small compared to others I have stayed in but definitely bigger than the standard hotel room. I liked the fact that energy conservation was definitely top most in the mind of the designers with motion activated lights in the corridors. However it can be a bit disconcerting to step out of the lift and have to wait that split second before the lights come on. I had booked a two bedroom unit which came with a double bed in the main bedroom (including ensuite) whilst the second bedroom included two single beds. There was a separate bathroom (more a shower room) next door to the second bedroom which was tiny but did the job. For those that have followed my reviews in the past, you would realize that I tend to only book hotel or apartments with balcony's. The balconies in the Apartment were tiny but afforded a great view of South Yarra room tops. All the Apartments come with split aircons that both cool during summer but warm during winter.

Location wise, its hard to top South Yarra. A multitude of coffee shops are within a 5 minute walk when exiting the Apartments. I especially liked Veloce around the corner from the Apartment which is a coffee shop in a vintage car showroom. Great way to spend breakfast!! You are also spoilt for choice with restaurants, some of which even operate 24hours a day (Chapelli's on Chapel Street)

For those intending to drive, be aware the hotel has limited car parking for residents and the spots are all located on the 6th floor which you get to up a winding and narrow driveway. Bigger cars would definitely find the trip up and down challenging.

Apart from the above comment, I would definitely rate the Punthill South Yarra one of the better serviced apartments in Melbourne.

Room Tip: The studio rooms are quite spacious but would recommend the one bedroom rooms for a bit of privacy...

The 3x of us stayed for 7 days in a 2x bedroom appt.
Never been to Auz before, was Informed south Yarra was the place to go for access to trains and trams/buses.
The rooms were great, everything you could poss want, clean towels everyday, cleaners even put dishwasher on! Geoff the manager was a great help, found all the staff helpfull.Would go back again.
Surprised that wifi was not free, as theses appts are not the cheapest in town. But it was a great place to stay..thats to Geoff and his team..

If you can't get or don't want a CBD hotel in Melbourne, the Punthill Grand in South Yarra is a damn good option. Melbourne was rated as the world's most livable coty (God knows on what basis) and South Yarra as Malbourne's most livable suburb so by, extenstion, SY is the world's most livable suburb. Anyway, be that as it may, the Punthill SY is about 250 metres from the South Yarra railway station and has trains every few minutes to Melbourne CBD. Toorak Rd and Chapel St are very handy and have great shopping, restaurants, and seem safe, good places to be. There's an Avis depot around the corner if you really must have a car but the tram routes (nos 8 and 78) are no less handy. We have a studio partment which was very well-equipped with the battery de cusine, dishdrawer, and laundry. there was even a balcony with table and chairs (but the weather was too dismal for al fresco dining). The only criticism was that the room was a tad small. The internet was semi-reliable but after whinging we got all charges wiped off the bill, which was nice. We enjoyed it will return.

Room Tip: We had the disabled room which had a vast shower area.

Stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment facing toward the city for 9 days.

No opportunity for early check-in, although a good sign the hotel is busy.. personally is a little frustrating as most international flights arrive in Australia early in the morning and the first thing you want to do after 24 hours of flying is take a shower.

The building, lobby and room were all modern and clean. The room although a bit on the small side, really has everything you need and was quite comfortable for 2 people. Shower water pressure and temperature was good. Bed was quite comfortable. Washing machine & drier are great to have on longer trips though are front loaded and so can be fairly noisy when in use (i.e. don't put them on just as you're about to go to bed).

Use your room key card to get into the car parking. Cost is $12 per day. Lots of spaces, though a little tight if your rental company decides to upgrade you to a larger SUV/4x4. Turning on to Yarra St from Toorak Rd during peak hour can be near on impossible (especially as the pedestrians are rushing across to make their trains). Better to come of Alexandra ave.

As mentioned in other reviews, a train station is across the road but you can't hear it. Quite convenient for quick trips into the city center. Also the trams leave from the same location if you want a more scenic/slower paced trip into the city center. If you walk to the end of Yarra St and turn left, you can also walk/run/ride along the river into the city center if that's your thing.

That said everything you could possibly need is within the South Yarra area around the hotel. Within a couple of minutes there is a 7/11, a couple of IGA supermarkets, quite a few cafes, many restaurants of every food type. Walk about 10 minutes and you can find larger Woolworths and Coles supermarkets, shops of pretty much any kind, cinemas (Jam Factory).

Overall I would recommend this hotel.

Great apartment very well equipped for short stay if self catering is desired. Great position near to South Yarra metro and the tram stops. Take the number 8 to go to the city.
Nice big comfortable bed and great terrace with sun beds.

Room Tip: The 1 bed apartment was great but if the studious are of similar quality they should be fine. Some r...
