“We were in Melbourne and thought we'd...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2010 via mobile

We were in Melbourne and thought we'd treat ourselves to a nice hotel for the night, I researched alot in Melbourne CBD but the Hilton South Wharf seemed to have the best rates. We were dropped off and picked up by friends so the location was no problem and we could see a nice walk way along the river to Southbank and the CBD from our deluxe city view room. There was also an IGA that sold alcohol which was a five minute walk away. Our room was what we had expected in size and the bathroom was good with a deep bath and great shower. The bed and pillows where amazing! So comfortable in fact, we decided to get room service instead of going out to dinner so we could laze around on it all evening.
The cleanliness of the whole hotel was excellent, from the sheets to the gym!
We had buffet breakfast included and were glad we did as it was the most luxurious buffet I have ever seen! It had everything you could imagine and more!
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
Overall I clearly loved the place, so if you stay here I hope you have the same experience as I did!

I stayed at King Executive room for one night recently and found their service quality to be absolutely top class. Check-in was smooth and was given a room on level 13 with Yarra River view at around 11am. Check-in time was supposed to be at 3pm. There are 19 floors in this hotel and the Executive Lounge is on level 4.

The room was very spacious with separate shower / bath and separate toilet. Bed was very comfortable - firm with lots of pillows. It has a nice wooden workdesk and floor to ceiling window with a fantastic view of the Yarra River and City skyline. The blind was electronically controlled - room was absolutely pitch black when closed, very effective to block out heat and light. They had a complimetry small bottle of water. Turn down service was not quite up to scratch - they only fixed the bed, no replacement of wet towels and no chocolate or water. We had buffet breakfast at Nuevo 37 - food was excellent with plenty to choose from.

The Executive Lounge faces north west of Melboune and it has an open balcony. There were views of the rivew, Dockland and Port Melbourne. They have coffee, softdrinks and cookies all day. Afternoon tea between 3pm to 6pm and pre-dinner drinks was 6pm to 8pm with good selection of alcohol and finger food - sushi, spring rolls, curry puffs etc.

The location of the hotel was on the western side of the Melbourne convention centre - it was just less than 10 mins walk to Crown Casino and probably 20 mins walk to Eureka Tower. Trams were not that close to the hotel either - you would have to cross a bridget.

Overall, I found this hotel very enjoyable to stay at. The only negatives are the location - much further away from the CBD than it appears to be on map and trams are not close enough. I had been woken up a couple of times by people shutting their room doors - noise insulation needed to be improved.

The moment you step foot, there you are greeted by the ever friendly porters who l park your car whilst you check in.
The foyer is dark & strange then light will hit certain areas..delightful change from other hotels.
The rooms all have great views whether city or bay side.
Breakfast was hugh to say the least & the bathrooms a bigger then normal 4 to 5 star.
I had an upgrade for 2 nights & thought I had died & gone to heaven
The bathroom was as big as a normal room
put together. Food was enjoyable & staff wonderful.
I had time on the 4th floor corp lounge where food & drinks are served 3 times a day.
Very large area with wireless laptop connections the best coffee, hot chocolate & tea machine. Balcony with views to the city & Crown casino at nite have their fire balls happening......Easy to walk anywhere & DFO next door Man that was a treat with 70% of most items with quality what more could you ask for.
The gym was fab had everything there. This hotel is new & comes highly recommend.
It isn't cheap but at different seasons you can grab a special it is worth the experience.

I stayed here as a honeymoon couple. Previous stays at other Hilton hotels were a fantastic experience. Two staff were clearly bored and quite rude when we did ask questions. The champagne and strawberries that we were meant to get on arrival did not turn up, even though it was part of our reservation as a honeymoon couple. The room seemed clean, sterile and without character. I could have stayed somewhere that was alot more romantic...extremely disappointing in general. If it wasn't for the great buffet breakfast in the morning I would have been very let down. For the amount you pay, you could definitely get better service and your reservation fulfilled elsewhere.

We drove to Melbourne from for Christmas. I wanted to show Melbourne to my wife. I had booked a four star accommodation for three days. But did not like the accommodation in the first night and wanted to change the hotel i was staying. so i was casually looking around online for some accommodation for the next couple days. I came across Hilton On South Warf. By default i never look for a 5 star hotel because the prices are so high up that we cannot afford. But was amazed to found Hilton at South Wharf to be cheap when compared to what other four stars where asking for. I loved the spacious room, spacious bathroom, the bed , the view of melbourne, the big glass window. I like the location because even though it was in the city there was some space to walk around. It is not as crowded as you would normally find other restaurants in the CBD are. I don't mind walking a bit to go to the restaurants. I would strongly recommend this hotel if it fits in your budget because normally five star hotels don't come cheap. I am thinking if i visit Melbourne again i would first see if Hilton is available.

Having read mixed reviews about this hotel prior to our arrival we were expecting a pleasant but ordinary experience. All I can say is that some people are very hard to please! The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was simply elegant and so comfortable with the most stunning views of the Yarra and city, we never closed the blinds. It was a 5 minute stroll to Southbank and trams that arrived every few minutes meant that travelling around the CBD was effortless. Breakfast was amazing and we were staying during a very busy weekend but had no trouble getting a table in the restaurant and never felt rushed despite turning up at 10:30 each morning.
We shall definitely return.

Staff that looked like they loved to be there as much as us. Rooms (16th floor) had fantastic views and the bedding was luxury. Food and drinks in the 4th floor lounge were great and the staff very friendly and looking to help. So close to south bank area of Melbourne and right next to Factory outlet stores for some bargains. Could not fault for the price we paid.
