“Basic hotel well located near shopping areas”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is my second time staying at this hotel and have to say that although there was no major issues my experience this time was not as good as the first time I stayed a few years ago. The hotel is centrally located near trams / trains / shopping so no complaints there. It's also quite close to Degraves Lane which contains goods cafes/restaurants (what Sydneysiders come to Melbourne looking for - Issus is highly recommended). What lets the hotel down is the housekeeping. On a few of the days the housekeeping was just barely satisfactory - towels were replaced but that was about it (bed sheets weren't even tucked in properly). Toiletries were scattered in the bath (was not like this when we left the room in the morning) and it looked like housekeeping had spent a maximum of 1 minute in the room. I don't expect luxury at this price range but there is no excuse for poor housekeeping - at any price range.
The free breakfast is ok but there's plenty of cafes around if you're after a hot breakfast with good coffee. All in all, it's still an ok Melbourne CBD hotel if you're after a hotel at $150/night but probably wouldn't pay more than that.

Had a three single-bedded room, which was perfect. Really comfortable beds, but could have done with more pillows. The shower room was suitable for disabled persons and was, as a result, huge. The hotel breakfast was straightforward continental style - plenty of items, constantly replenished and fresh, but not for you if you want the full English. Plenty of small coffee shops / bakeries right outside the door if you wanted a change. Location was ideal - very central.

Stayed here for three nights early July. Quick checkin and staff were friendly over visit. You can't beat the location, right in the city but in a quiet lane that has great cafes and atmosphere. Walking distance to all that Melbourne has to offer. Continental breakfast was very generous only criticism that the rooms entranceway in the basement is quiet dark and not welcoming.
Next time would try to get a room that faces onto Little Collins Street which would offer more of an outlook. The twin room was clean, bathroom a good size and no problem with noise at night. Excellent value for money, would stay again.

Room Tip: Check if room available that faces onto Little Collins Street for more of a view.

Although the location was great we had to sleep on a "king" bed which was actually two single beds pushed together, the sheets and mattress protector didn't fit the bed which made it very uncomfortable. The service was very hit and miss, when we checked in the lady was quite rude. The room only had the most basic of cleaning done during our two day stay-the bathmat was replaced and the dishes washed but nothing else was touched.

Great trip, up until the end where the hotel lost my luggage. Not sure why they have baggage tags and not check them when guests collect their bags. I eventually got my bag, four days later. Was frustrated with the lack of care that the staff showed. Staff were non committal when questioned with how they were going to deal with the situation. Would not stay there again. Would not recommend to others.

Myself & a friend had a twin room. Was spacious enough, the bathroom is large with a big mirror & large mirrored wardrobe. Ample space for our 2 cases and shopping. Room was serviced after 3ish most days (that we ate aware of with our comings and goings). Staff at front counter friendly enough & happy to help & answer questions. I'd stay here again.

This is my regular stop for business in Melbourne. It's conveniently located, check in is straight forward, it's quiet and the bed is comfortable. The newspaper in the morning is a nice perk, and usually breakfast is included in the price. It's a fairly basic breakfast but it does the trick (croissants, cereal, meats/cheese etc). The hotel is located amongst a strip of cafes so other breakfast options are available, and dinner options are nearby as well. There is a gym at the hotel too, which is sufficient for a good workout - new treadmills and basic weights equipment. The biggest draw for me is that it is usually priced right. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
