We were treated by friends for dinner at Fiorelli's and it was indeed a treat. Situated in the restaurant strip across from the Rivoli theartre, Fiorelli's needs to do things right to be in the game. The ambiance and atmosphere hit the spot, although the noise level did get up there when the place filled up on a Friday night. Seat comfort was terrific and the service attentive, with friendly staff who knew their stuff.
We had a good spread across the menu, starting with soup of the day and bruschetta ; not adventurous, but nevertheless, both very good. Mains were beef cheek (the daily special), lamb shanks and crumbed veal. All judged as very good to excellent, with reasonable serving sizes. Make sure you include a side of pan fried potatoes which are right up there with the best around.
Not much room left for dessert, but a couple of the diners went for the cheese plate and tiramisu which were rated as good without being outstanding. Three of the diners were very picky about how they wanted their coffees, and there were delivered right on the mark.
Only one of the group knew their wines, with the verdict that the list and prices were OK.
One niggle was the speed at which the empty plates were removed ; just a bit too quickly after the meals were finished. However, we were an older aged group so probably this niggle and the comments about the noise relate more to the fact that we were getting ancient, rather than being too much of a reflection on the restaurant.
Overall, a recommended spot to dine and enjoy.
