“Great place for breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012 via mobile

Apte is one of those breakfast places that you just want to go back to. It has an indoor and outdoor area, both of which are always packed full of people happily eating or waiting for a table. It is child friendly, especially the outdoor area. It may be cold to eat outside in winter but the outdoor heaters are on full blast and make things rather cosy. The breakfast options are good - their ricotta pancakes are delicious as is their banana loaf (as others have mentioned). While the coffee does take a while to reach your table once ordered, they do make a mean coffee so its worth the wait!

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2012

A little out of the way but well worth the trip. The "mixed platter" may sound like a mans plate however it is a ladies delight - a mix of both the banana bread with yogurt rhubarb and pistachio and the ricotta and citrus pancakes with poached pear. The big breakfast is certainly just that, eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms and homemade relish with some of the best toast going.
Coffee is always great and the service was attentive - one of my top three breakfast handouts in Melbourne.

“A little out of the way gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2011 via mobile

My goodness!!! The banana bread with yogurt rhubarb and pistachio! I couldn't eat it all but every mouthful was incredible. The service was average as you can gauge from other reviews but not worse than any 'normal' cafe-- but the food made up for it. Though there were a lot of toddlers...

“Best coffee in Melbourne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2011

Just go there - it speaks for itself. They really have the right combination - menu, staff, service and coffee. Just getting a table can be the tricky bit. Worth a visit!!!

“A Place To Eat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2009

We had a late brunch at APTE yesterday. delicious magazine rated it the best cafe in Australia, as it's fairly local to us we thought we would make a visit.

The coffee is excellent. Rates highly with the best I've had in Melbourne. My husband had the standard big breakfast which he said was good, and I had a salad which was fairly underwhelming. Rocket, basil, goats fetta, sliced tomato and toasted sour dough for $14.50. Some of the basil was starting to rot and I got the top of a tomato (you know the little pithy centre you throw out). I should have had the ricotta hot cakes. For afters I had the most wonderful lemon slice (just like my grandma used to make) and mu husband had a terrific orange and poppy seed muffin.

I am looking forward to my next visit, I just wont have a salad!
