“Value for money, good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011

The name of this hotel has been changed to Crown Gardens. Affordable accommodation in the heart of Melbourne. The apartments are small but totally adequate as a place to sleep between shopping expeditions. The location is ideal for those travelling to Melbourne for shopping; the main shopping precinct is a short walk away as is the Vic Market and the free City Central tram. Many restaurants and cafes close by. Air conditioning for those hot summer days (temp reached 32 when we were there). Courteous service. We found none of the noise problems others mentioned (we were on the 4th floor). I'd stay here again if I were visiting Melbourne to shop, and shop, and shop....

This small hotel is in a great location. The rooms are only ok and do have a small kitchenette with a stove top but no microwave. Housekeeping is not done well. We stayed five nights and our bed was made once in that time. I would stay here again if nothing else was available.

Room Tip: If you can afford the extra for the delux room it is worth it for the little bit of extra space.

A wet night and late check in - but where is the hotel? It changed its name (now City Gardens Hotel) between making the booking and arriving - not notice to me. Once found the check in was quick. The room (a studio apartment) was small and felt smaller as it looked over a small courtyard between buildings. The room was very clean although it smelled of cigarettes! The bathroom has been recently renovated and was very clean and tidy. The room was close to the kitchen of a restaurant in an ajoining lane - this meant you had some noise but it did stop at 11pm.

The location was great, lots of cafes, bars and shopping on your doorstep. Terrific and a short walk to my buiness dealings.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher floors away from the restaurant kitchens the hotel backs onto.

Liked the service, the location and water pressure in the shower.
REALLY had trouble with the noise from the street and rooms (even though we were deep in the hallway, and on the fifth floor).
The mattresses are very low quality.

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs...

We stayed at the Leo Pacific (now called the City Garden) for four days to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday in Melbourne. There were three of us in our room, quite small but clean and comfortable. The bathroom was modern, the water hot, the towels thick and white...although there was a cracked window that needed replacing. The walls are thin but we weren't disturbed by others and the noise in the street was also minimal. The hotel is central to fantastic restaurants, cafes and various transport options. The staff were polite, helpful and friendly. They didn't bat an eyelid when my daughter spilt her juice all over the floor (so sorry) just as our Jetbus driver was rushing us out to his van for the airport. All in all, it was a well run budget hotel that was great to bustle into and relax after a hectic day (or night) in Melbourne. We would definitely stay there again.

The hotel was very close to everyhting, great restaurants and bars in the closest lane. could have done with a proper exhaust fan and a coat of paint in the room but the bed was very comfy. we didnt seem to experience as much noise as some of the other reviews, could have been because we were on the top floor.

While overall the hotel is basic, we enjoyed our 3 days and will definitely return. The rooms are clean and functional - albeit a little small. As highlighted by some other reviewers street noise late at night (from garbage trucks and general city life) is loud at times and the rooms would benefit from some double glazing. However the room was clean and well serviced, reception staff very friendly and helpful and the bed, while firm, was sufficient for 3 good nights' sleep. The major bonus is the location - you will not get a better spot in the city for the price.

Room Tip: Look for something towards the back.
