Description: Jill & George Mure opened Tasmania's first licensed seafood restaurant, Mures Fish House, in 1973 in Hobart. When they struggled to source quality, fresh, local seafood, George went fishing. More than 40 years on, now owned by Will & Jude Mure, Mures remains a favourite of locals and visitors alike, located in Hobart's working fishing port at Victoria Dock. Mures' philosophy of fresh Australian seafood, sourced from sustainably managed fisheries still rings true from the ocean to the plate. At Lower Deck you can enjoy a wide variety of seafood from the licensed Bistro, including Mures' own line caught blue eye trevalla, as you take in the sights and sounds of the waterfront. Start the day off right with breakfast by the docks, served daily from 7am. Check out the vast array of Australian seafood at the Fishmongers including rock lobster, salmon, scallops and mussels, where you can order freshly shucked Tasmanian oysters from the Oyster Bar. Mures' own range of gourmet seafood products, Tasmanian wines, cider and recipe books are also available. Finish off with a local roasted coffee or choose from 32 flavours of ice cream at the Cafe.

“Lunch for 3”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

You have an idea what to expect when you line up to place your order and pay. A buzzing alarm tells you your meal is ready to collect from the same counter. Staff were pleasant enough, although the person clearing tables did not seem to be enjoying his job. Scraping leftovers into a mobile trolley bin and stacking used plates and cups right next to diners eating is deplorable. A quick baptism for the cleaning rag in greasy water and a wipe of all crumbs etc onto the floor had to suffice. I felt our table was a little sticky on bare arms? On a brighter note - the icecream and coffee stand is well-patronised, quick and good value.

“Excellent fish - great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2014

We ate at Mures Lower Deck twice during our 3 day stay in Hobart. It has a nice friendly atmosphere and the fish is excellent. The salads, in my opinion, are really large, especially the garden salad. You even get free sparkling water from the self service tap!
The ice cream is delicious, they even have 'baby' sized scoops (which are actually enormous!).

“Complaints ignored”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2014

My partner and I visited Mures Lower Deck on a Friday evening. After waiting 40 minutes we finally collected our meal, Oysters had shell grit in them, fish and chips were luke warm. I asked a worker for some salt and was told to "steal some from another table" and waitress then told me "it's not my job anyway". I detailed everything in a letter to the management and we still have not had a reply nearly two weeks ago. Staff's attitude to customers definitely reflects management's "I don't care " attitude. Never again, why pay high prices only to get insulted

Dear Andy

Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback on Trip Advisor regarding your recent experience at Mures Lower Deck. Mures continues to be a family owned business with a very hands on approach to business. We pride ourselves on serving the very best quality that has been expertly cared for from the moment it has been caught right through to service. So, it is very disappointing to hear of your experience.

Mures take customer feedback very seriously and we have a strict process in place to answer any written correspondence. I am afraid we have not received your letter. May we check who the letter was addressed to and which address you used?

Please accept our apologies that your fish and chips were not hot and that the oysters contained some grit. We have passed your feedback onto our Chef so he can follow up with our Lower Deck kitchen team.

There is no excuse for the behaviour of the wait staff you dealt with on the night you dined with us. Please be assured this is not our usual service standard and we work hard to employ the right staff and maintain a high level of customer service. To address this issue we would appreciate it if you could please let us know the approximate time and date that you dined with us so we can speak to the staff who were rostered on that evening.

We have faith that while upsetting, your experience was an anomaly. As a family owned business with a proud history, every customer’s experience matters to us. As a token of our appreciation for taking the time to share your feedback with us we would like to send you a complimentary voucher with the hope that we can provide you with a tasty Mures memory. Please provide us with your postal address. You can email this through to marketing@mures.com.au

Kind regards
Cath Adams

“A Real Letdown”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

This establishment is the dominant eatery on Constitution Dock because of it's size and central location. Consequently it is busy. But it does have competition in smaller close by concerns which, in hindsight, offer better value and quality. Views and atmosphere at Mures are great; but...

I guess I should have been wary when I enquired of a cheery girl behind the counter as to the taste of Blue Eye. She didn't know! Anyway, we ordered Blue Eye and chips and some scallops. The fish was cold, the chips overcooked and tepid, and the scallops were the size of squashed peas and, on account of their lack of substance, tasteless. This was about the most expensive and unappetizing seafood meal I have eaten.
