The Royal Exchange is an excellent, simple, clean hotel right in downtown Hobart (central business district). The rooms are clean and comfortable and the price ($50single/65double) is about 1/3 less than any other ensuite rooms in Hobart (ensuite = private bathroom) . It's a 10 minute walk to the waterfront and Salmanca Market.

This is a small family-run hotel that operates something like a bed and breakfast. Don't expect anything fancy, but the owners are friendly and very helpful to the traveler.

The breakfasts provided are simple toast, cereal, and coffee.

The pub downstairs is closed, but the hotel upstairs is still operating. You have to call the phone # to book the rooms.

There are no phones in the rooms. There may be some construction noise next door soon, since it looks like a building site is under way.
