“A room with a view to write home about!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

Grand Vue is a gorgeous house, very well located in lovely Battery Point, with quietly pleasant owner/managers.
We occupied "water view 2" for two nights; a queen room with amazing views over the harbour and to Mt Wellington.
We didn't order breakfast (preferring to go out to Jackman and McRoss bakery just up the road) however we did appreciate the freshly baked cupcakes that appeared in the early evening, as well as the good quality provided coffee and teas.
A great neighbourhood to just stroll around in, taking photos of the houses and their flower gardens and the water views from almost every street.
We ate out at Fish Frenzy ("Fishies") which we'd highly recommend for fish and chips, oysters, calamari and scallops, and at Garagistes (also recommended, and I'll review it separately).

Battery Point is perfectly situated for a stay in Hobart and the Grand Vue is a perfect choice in Battery Point. Our rooms had been recently renovated in an understated but luxurious manner. As two couples travelling together we had the 'quad' accommodation, two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. Both bedrooms overlooked Sandy Bay with views to Mt Wellington, the larger bedroom equipped with a kitchenette, comfortable chairs and table and dining chairs. The interior design is tasteful and luxurious, without being 'twee' which can sometimes be a problem in B and Bs. The bathroom was beautifully appointed with classy finishes. The hosts were discreet but welcoming and the fresh muffins for afternoon tea were delicious. We would not hesitate to stay in this charming private hotel again.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the river.

To stay at this lovely hotel is the next best thing to being invited to stay at a good friend's beautiful home. With its grand entrance, sitting room with plentiful magazines and classical music, scented and flower-filled hallways and quality -outfitted and comfortable rooms, it is always a pleasurable stay. Many of the rooms have splendid river views of the nearby Derwent River, all are well appointed with comfortable beds, quality linen and superb showers. There are not too many places I am aware of that deliver cakes fresh from the oven to your door during the afternoon. Thank you, Annette, it is a welcoming gesture and much appreciated.
Do book early and request an upstairs room as, unfortunately, movement from the room above can be heard occasionally, a minor concern only amidst all the positives.

This was our last stay following a 3 week car trip "down under". This residential neighborhood was very quaint. Front gardens full of roses. Grande Vue was re-landscaping the front while we were there so am sure the new English garden should be awesome. Adequate parking. Easy walk to several nice restaurants, but they don't start serving dinner until 6PM. 15 min. walk to Salamanca Market.... a must on Saturday.

Huge vase of fresh flowers in the front hall & lobby were a pleasant greeting. Public areas tastefully furnished. Being on a budget, we chose the Chambre room for 3 nights. Nothing "budget" re: accommodations ! Upscale furnishings, bedding, towels, carpet, window treatments. Marble bathroom floor. Heated towel rack. Liked the folding doors to close off the mini-kitchen. Added surprise treat to have fresh muffins delivered to our room @ 5PM each day. As advertised, no view from this room..... well, a drive-way @ eye level, but outside could not see in (we tried) . Being in the basement, was difficult to haul luggage up/down narrow, winding stairs. Helpful management was appreciated.
Please note: central heating can not be regulated in rooms.

The water view from upper floors is fabulous ! Splurge and go for it --

We stayed there for four nights and loved every minute of it. The property is great, centrally located, with good views. The room was very spacious with spa bath, nice furnishings, clean and comfortable. The added touch was the the owners baked muffins every evening and left them in the room for us. There is no restaurant in the property but there are several great ones within walking distance. The price was above average but it was worth every penny.
