I joined tripadvisor just to write a review of this hotel. It's a pub hotel and it caters to backpacker types. I was travelling to Hobart on a budget for a conference and found a really good deal on this room. I was pretty concerned about this place because I couldn't find very much information about it online and there was some confusion over whether it was Holydene Lodge or something else. (Holydene lodge has shut down and this is a different location, but the owners bought the name and use it?)

Anyways, we arrived in the evening to the scariest hotel/ backpackers room I've ever seen (and I've seen alot!). Where to start? There was a used bar of soap in the shower with hair on it. There was a hair on the toilet seat. The bathroom floor was sticky. The "door" to the ensuite was a shower curtain. The lamp in the room was a 1950s hugh living room lamp, on the floor, with no lampshade, just a bare lightbulb. The "tea and coffee making facilities" had two saucers, no cups, and one wrinkly, tragic tea bag. The television was from the 1970s (doing better than the lamp) but was set up by the head of the bed so the only way to watch it was to lay on your side and watch it from two feet away.

Unfortunately, we actually spent a night here since it was 11pm and we'd travelled all day. I slept in my clothes because....well, you can probably tell why, but also because there was sawdust or dirt in the sheets. We moved to the Quest Savoy for the remainder of the week.

In fairness, I think they are trying to remodel the place, judging by the amount of used furniture and mattresses piled up in the hallways and inside the "restuarant" (not open). So maybe it will improve drastically.
