Grape is a busy restaurant and wine bar in Salamanca - downtown Hobart. Although known for tapas and small dishes, we had a group of 12 and with advance warning they prepared a whole suckling pig. It was served up on a huge platter, surrounded by vegetables and small whole potatoes and baked onions. It was cooked perfectly - the crackling was crisp and delicious, the underneath meat moist of tender. And it was stuffed with more vegetables. At $350 or less than $30 per head, it provided more than enough food for our group. It was a fun and sociable way to get good food and contributed to a great night. Because the busy kitchen needs to be available for the tapas dishes, they required us to be there at 6pm and brought out the pig at 6.30. You need to book some days in advance but if you have a group, the experience is well worth it. And there is an extensive and well priced wine list as well.
