“Modern, spacious and friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

We recently stayed 4 nights and found the experience very comfortable and excellent value for money. It is in an great location for jogging or walking alongside the river. A microwave in the room is a plus when staying a few nights and there is an excellent, casual seafood restaurant within walking distance. I would also highly recommend the Indian restaurant Saffron which delivered an excellent meal to the door within 35 minutes.

One downside was the fact that the motel gym does not open until 8am which is a bit late if you have a full day of activities planned.

Stayed here for a night after flying into Hobart late. Easy to get to, friendly service. It is a bit noisy being located on a fairly busy road, especially when the road is wet. The bed was a bit small and a bit hard. Overall, i would recommend this as a good overnighter.

Stayed at this motel twice in our recent trip to Tasmania, rooms were clean and tidy, modern in decor.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful
Location on the waterfront across the road from the wrest point casino was good and proved to be a good location to explore Hobart and surrounding countryside.
Pricing was at the top of the range for the accommodation provided, but this seems to be the norm for Tasmania.
Only complaint was the lack of free wifi at this motel, even smaller motels provide free wifi at their location.
For the price they charge they need to provide free wifi as this is almost essential in today's modern society.

Stayed in a Deluxe Queen room. The location of the motel is lovely, right next to casino and the derwent river....The room was clean and comfortable. The bed mattress seemed to be a bit hard though. There is free parking onsite. The room had a dvd player, microwave, basic crockery and cutlery and tea making facilities. This was very helpful. We had arrived after hours and the staff had happily arranged for our keys to be picked up from their after hours box.

We stayed for one night only in a Deluxe Queen room. The good: free parking; microwave/crockery/cutlery; tea/coffee facilities; DVD player; reasonably priced mini bar. The bad: price; location; unfriendly staff; toiletries (hand wash & shampoo) provided in dispensers, no conditioner provided. There is a Coles supermarket 10min walk or 2min drive away (open until midnight) and if you have kids, there is a 24hr McDonalds next to Coles. We paid $170 for our room. We travel often and stay in 3-4 star properties often, and in our opinion our room was a stock standard sterile room, probably better priced at the $120 mark. If you are interested in casinos, Wrest Point is directly across the road. The waterfront and Salamanca are an easy 10min drive. All in all, if you are looking for an average stay for one night, this is fine. But do yourself a favour - book early and for the same price you can stay in one of the quirky / arty style hotels around the waterfront area.

Motel 429 was very clean, comfortable and the staff were extra friendly. We stayed for 2 nights and would highly recommend. Location was really great. Only downfall is there is no restaurant but close to others.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

We stayed three nights in a second floor standard room. This was clean, freshly decorated and well furnished; the queen bed was particularly comfortable. Our room had a small balcony with room (just) for two to sit out. The bathroom is very small with a WC, basin and sit bath with shower over, but again very clean, freshly decorated and comfortable. Equipped with a fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave. All bed linen and towels was good quality and nicely laundered. Superior room with refitted bathrooms and air conditioning (but no balcony) are available at extra cost.

The standard rooms are furthest away from the road, which can be a bit noisy, especially at peak times, but this did not concern us. The motel is opposite the esplanade and a small beach. Buses for the city centre stop close by.

We thought this motel offered good value and we were very comfortable.
