“Had great fun, location very convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2010

Travelled to Hobart recently for a sporting event we were participating in. Booked a 2 bedroom room with Salamanca.

The rooms are clean, the kitchen well equipped the beds very comfortable.

The only minor dissappointment was the size of the TV. It was VERY small.

All in all though, the Salamanca Inn proves to offer wonderful staff, clean rooms, very convenient location to the City and Salamanca, and the pool is wonderfully warm

Recently stayed in a 2 bedroom family appartment and was not disappointed despite reading some of the negative reviews on this site. The hotel is currently being upgraded and our appartment was very nice with all the mod cons. Kids had a separate bedroom (bunk beds), and the kitchen was well equipped and bathroom very nice and modern.
The location is brilliant, very vibrant along Salamanca Place for restaurants and bars etc at night, and right in the middle of the action of Salamanca Market on Saturday morning. No noise heard from outside at all. Off street parking available which was perfect as many of the surrounding hotels do not have free carparking available.
Not the cheapest hotel around, but happy to pay a little extra for a comfortable stay.

My partner and I, with our 4 year old daughter stayed at the Salamanca Inn for two nights. We booked a Queen room but upon checking in, the very helpful front desk lady suggested that we might prefer a room with a double bed and single bed instead (we were planning to all sleep in the Queen!). A better option, at no further charge. So that is what we did. The room was fantastic. Sure, not much of a view (into the neighboring lane way), but when staying in a budget priced room, you cant really expect a view and we knew that. The room had a very clean and modern galley kitchen (entrance), clean bathroom with shower/bath, sitting area, dining area that doubled as computer table, large mirrored robes (plenty of storage) and the two beds. Free movies were included in our package, together with cooked breakfasts on both days and free parking. Sleeping here was easy. No noise. Despite the hotel being full. The windows to the room could be opened for fresh air if you wanted (double windows, so very safe!) and you can control the heating level in the room. The best part, was the heated floor tiles!! Leave your slippers at home! The beds were very comfortable. I slept better than I do at home! The hotel is 2 minutes walk to Salamanca Place, where you will find ample restaurants to suit the entire family. There is also news agency and a grocery store. The hotel has a pool and spa area, which is nice enough, but a little bland. The entrance to the hotel does not lend any favors to the standard of comfort and service you actually receive. The foyer could possibly do with a bit of a refurbish. We were advised that the hotel is undergoing a complete refurbishment and that 50% if the rooms had been completed (I think ours was one of them!), with the rest due for completion by Dec2010. Perhaps the foyer will be the last thing they do? The restaurant was lovely, although we only ate breakfast there. Breakfast was divine and set us up for most of the day! I would completely recommend this hotel for its location, comfort, service and value for money. Being a family with a small child, the room was spacious and comfortable enough for us all (over two nights) that the more expensive rooms probably were unnecessary. Im so glad we had the room we did. We will be back!!

I chose Salamanca Inn from reading the reviews on Trip Advisor....it's the first time i have done that and i have to say i wasn't disappointed, thank goodness! We were a family of 4 with teens. The hotel was well presented, the staff were excellent and extremely helpful, smiling and friendly. I work in customer service and only the most tardy could possibly find fault with these people. The room was recently renovated and you could smell the new paint and carpets (in a nice way)...galley kitchen was very badly equipped...that was the only bad thing about the whole place so if you don't intend to cook then that's hardly going to be the decider.....and with this hotel smack in the middle of all the bars and restaurants you won't starve! The lounge area is functional with 2 two seater sofas and a dining table, balcony with lovey views to the park. The beds were lovely an comfy with good quality linen, clean bed spreads (my pet hate) ...the bathroom was new and had underfloor heating ...toasty for us as it was winter. Austar was great for the boys ..not flatscreen tv's but then we didn't go for the telly! Would definitely stay again.

This is a dated, over-priced hotel. It's location is it's only saving grace. Plenty of other better value hotels in the vicinity.

We booked the Salamanca based on some previous reviews, and the location. It is situated right at the edge of the action in the Salamanca district, and is easily within walking distance of some great restaurants, bars and attractions. The port area is a 5 minute walk, and has some wonderful views.

The hotel is great, free parking, very friendly staff and a decent layout. The pool/spa area looks really nice, we didn't get a chance to use it as we were too busy, and also traveling with a toddler who needed his rest!

The room was very nice. You walk in the front door, right into the kitchen area. Loads of space, well appointed and clean. We didn't use the kitchen this time, as we were out at places like Port Arthur, and we checked in late our first night. But it would be easy to cook some great meals there.

The big lounge room has 2 big couches, a dining table an TV, plus the outside patio are. All very nice. The first bedroom is off the lounge, and was quite roomy and dark, with no exterior windows. You'd get a good nights sleep in there I imagine. I slept upstairs!

The upstairs area contains the bathroom and second bedroom. The bathroom is spacious and well appointed. Good amenities included, and a great shower over bath. Only problem is there is no exhaust fan, so it gets quite steamy in there.

The second bedroom is also quite large, with lots of places to store your clothes. TV, alarm clock, plus a cool window on an angle that opens electrically. The blind is also operated electrically. It's a bit noisy, but no issue.

The ONLY issue with this hotel is the lack of air conditioning. We were in Hobart on probably the hottest days of summer, when it got to about 28 degrees and very sunny. Needless to say the room was cooking! There is a ceiling mounted fan in the lounge, and even with the sliding patio door open it didn't do much to move the heat out. The upstair was worse. No ceiling mounted fan, just a small portable fan that did nothing to cool the place down, even with the window open. So that made for a very restless 2 nights.

Other than that, we didn't eat in the hotel but the food at breakfast looked quite good, and the menu for their in house restaurant also looked good. We would have eaten there if there were more gluten-free type options for our son, plus we wanted to get out and see what the fuss was on Salamanca.

Overall a good place to visit, except when it is really hot! Excellent service, friendly staff make it a great place to stay.

The location of this hotel (around the corner from Salamanca), and the fact that the staff were so helpful and friendly, saved it from being just an ordinary hotel. There is nothing particularly special about the rooms although they are clean and neat, and they have computers and internet (not sure of the cost) in the rooms. The hotel could do with an upgrade - the foyer is big and empty and the kitchenette in each room is not necessary - although I can understand there may be families staying that want the facilities. Overall, the hotel is probably good for families (there were lots of children) and couples holidaying together (try the suite) but not so good for quiet, romantic stays.
