“Needs some work but good atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was OK but in need of some improvement. The first problem we encountered was the lift. We got in with another couple, it went up 2 floors then stopped. After about 30 seconds it started going down and we were back on the ground floor. The other couple had stayed there before and weren't too fazed so we tried again and this time it took us to second floor and let us get out. We found the stairs (a bit of a higgledy-piggedly layout) and used them thereafter.
The room itself was dark. There was one small window which looked out on another building. The lighting consisted of 2 down-pointing lamps in either corner so not much use. The window had to be closed because staff were using the alley below our window for the cigarette breaks.
The bathroom was small and the water was difficult to manage, being either too hot or too cold (there was no inbetween!) The sink plug didn't fit. The shower tray was too close and the shower head was a little too low so I had to stoop slightly to wash my hair.
Having said all that I quite liked the place. The staff were helpful, the food in the bar attached was great. One night we had a guy playing the piano in there. The breakfast was good, they were still bringing fresh breads out 10 minutes before they stopped serving. The atmosphere was great and that's really what makes the place. A few little tweaks and it could be perfect.

Stayed at Hadley's Hotel for 3 nights in April 2015 Very helpful staff well appointed room in a hotel oozing history . Could not have been happier with the room and the reception staff both at check in and for general . I stay in a lovely room with balcony a very comfotable bed , with plenty of room to move . The Bathroom was more than generous in size, and room & bathroom were very clean. Would stay again and have already recommended to several friends . Traveled with a friend but we had seprate rooms My friend had a suite room also very good and a great value

Room Tip: Some Rooms have balcony

First time in Tasmania and I was fortunate I picked Hadley's Hotel. Location is conveniently located downtown and within walking distance of the waterfront and Salamanca Market. When I stayed there in October 2014, it was being renovated so there was some busy work in the lobby area. What I liked about the room was the good lighting, comfy bed, in-room safe and fridge, good wi-fi connection, and the great location. The only drawback I had was the shower, which I found hard to control the water temperature. Also, I only saw one small elevator, which was located by the front desk, so you might have to wait if there is a lot of people using it. Most of the time, I ended up taking the stairs. Friendly staff at the front desk!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a street view.

Dear BayAreaTraveler6338,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review on trip advisor. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and the convenient location within walking distance to the waterfront and Salamanca Market. I am delighted to advise that the restoration is now complete and the lobby area and Atrium are very comfortable spaces to relax, catch up with friends and enjoy a drink. We are so pleased you liked the good lighting, comfy bed, in-room safe, fridge and good Wi-Fi connection in your room. We are sorry you found the water temperature hard to control and I am pleased to advise that our maintenance department has addressed this issue since you stayed back in October 2014. We do have 1 elevator in the hotel and, like you, many guests happily take the stairs to access our floors from ground level up to the 4th floor.
Thank you for mentioning our friendly staff and we will certainly pass this feedback on to the front desk staff.
Kind regards,
Hadley’s Orient Hotel Management

Centrally located in the city. Stayed during Anzac weekend. Upon arrival we asked if there was parking only to be told no but that there's parking down the road for $20 but because we're guests they'll only charge $15. We were also told that if we move the car out on the road that both Saturday and Sunday would be free parking. That wasn't the case. The room was spacious and the beds comfortable. The bathroom was old. No exhaust fan. Shower over a bathtub. Don't usually mind this except this bathroom has half a glass panel and the water was going all over the unshielded part of the floor. Had breakfast and the service was somewhat lacking. After being told that our order would be taken shortly, that didn't happen and I had to chase down a worker myself.

Stayed April 2015

Dear The_Cassidy_Clan,
Thank you for providing this feedback. We are pleased to hear that enjoyed our central location and found the room spacious and the beds comfortable. We do apologise if there was miscommunication regarding our car parking. Guest parking is located off-site in the Trafalgar Square Car Park and costs $15.00 per day. Some of our guests do choose to park on the street and we strongly recommend that they comply with any signage relating to maximum stay times, charges or pick up/drop off and loading zones. Thank you for bringing to our attention your concerns regarding the exhaust fan and shower. We have notified our maintenance department who have since rectified this matter. For future stays, please don’t hesitate to contact reception with any concerns as they can usually rectify most matters immediately or facilitate a room move if required. We are disappointed that you felt the service at breakfast was lacking and your comments have been discussed with the entire food and beverage team. We do apologise for any inconvenience caused from having to chase down the staff to take your breakfast order.
Kind regards,
Hadley’s Orient Hotel Management

We loved staying in this historic hotel! It was well equipped, comfortable, friendly, and efficient. We were able to walk everywhere very safely. Daci and Daci, great for breakfast and lunch, is less than a block away.

Room Tip: Rooms at Theron's have better views than others. Front corners would be best.

We were excited to book into an old world experience of high tea at a heritage hotel and so dressed up for the occasion. Unfortunately we were disappointed; it was a real anticlimax. There were only a two couples booked in and instead of being seated in (what appeared to be) a light and bright conservatory, we shown into a dark bar next to a window, on top of the only other couple who were there. This provided no ambience at all and no experience of the old hotel. Then add in the sound of drilling and hammering going on nearby and that finished it off. We later peeked into the nicer room and saw what looked like leftovers from a large group high tea. Although there were many empty tables still in the room, the large group may have booked out the room (an option on the site). Although the gentleman serving us was very nice, it was not exactly silver service. The food was nice (particularly the sweet treats) but we have had better high teas. There was only 1 tiny quiche as the hot food (smaller than 20c piece) and the sandwiches were dry with some of the fillings a bit ordinary. All in all a very disappointing experience leaving us feeling as though we were all dressed up and nowhere to go.

Room Tip: You need to book in for the high tea 24 hours ahead, if you decide you want to go, suggest before yo...

Dear J B,
Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear that you left Hadley’s Orient Hotel feeling disappointed. On the day of your High Tea, the large group in the Atrium were celebrating a birthday so, for your comfort, we decided to seat you in The Orient Bar where you would not be disturbed. We agree the ambience contributes to the overall High Tea experience and the recently restored Orient Bar and public areas provide an elegant backdrop for taking High Tea. We are currently working on the installation of ducted heating throughout the foyer which should further enhance the comfort of our guests. The hammering and drilling that you heard was coming from the basement where contractors are working and we do apologise for this disruption during your High Tea service. Please rest assured that the contractors have been advised to cease all work during our High Tea service.
Our intention is to offer a traditional High Tea and we strive to present an authentic and quality experience to our guests. We source the highest quality products and ingredients and our menu is ever-changing due to seasonality and availability. We prepare freshly baked scones with jam and cream, delicate pastries, indulgent sweet treats and a selection of fresh sandwiches. Guests can choose from our selection of fine loose-leaf teas served in individual Noritake teapots. We do value all guest feedback and will certainly discuss your comments with the entire team. Naturally, we would like all of our guests to depart with a smile on their face and be happy to return. If you would consider having a High Tea with us again, please feel free to contact me direct at feedback@hadleyshotel.com.au and I will personally handle your reservation.
Kind regards,
Hadley’s Orient Hotel Management

Stayed in a family room for 3 nights with 3 friends. We didn't sleep a lot so weren't in the rooms much. Beds & pillows were extremely comfortable. Shower was awesome, great pressure although a slightly larger shower screen would stop some of the water getting on the floor. Room was average, floor creaked & was uneven which was made very evident by the leaning furniture.
Didn't eat on site so can't comment on food. Reception staff need some lessons on how to treat guests, especially the big bald fella that seemed to be on duty in the early hours - rudest reception person I've met.
Of biggest concern was the handing out of a room key to someone that wasn't booked in the room. We had a friend staying at another place who simply mentioned 2 names, made up a story & was given a key to our room. I approached the reception person involved & she was very apologetic but this just shouldn't happen.
Overall we had a reasonable stay, the location was very convenient & within walking distance of most places we wanted to go.

We are pleased that you found the bed & pillows extremely comfortable, the shower awesome and the location very convenient and within walking distance to most places you wanted to go.
