“Good Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

We spent one night here, and were greeted by very friendly helpful staff. Our room was pleasant. Walking distance to the City Centre and Salamanca markets. One thing that was disappointing was we had to pay for parking in the hotel. Would have been nice if guests didn't have to pay. Parking is very limited on the streets and only allows for 1hr parking during the day, until 6pm.
Be aware that Hobart is hilly, down hill to City and Markets for a few blocks. Quite steep to walk back with your parcels. Young people won't find this a problem, but if you're like me with dodgy knees, it is quite a struggle. Lots of walking to do in the markets, and then to walk back up the hill is not easy. Found the Best Western Restaurant a bit pricey, but found a lovely Indian Restaurant (Tandoor & Curry House) just around the corner, very reasonably priced and excellent food.

Dear kimejen,
I am so pleased that found us to be a good, central base for your Hobart visit. We do charge for parking (as most CBD hotels do) but I think our rate of $10 a day represents good value for money given the location. Hoping to see you again in the future.

We stayed here for only one night before picking up a hire car the next day. the hotel rooms are tired and old with no sound proofing on the windows. it is located on a busy st so even with ear plugs will not get a lot of sleep if facing harrington st. the bed also caused me to have bites over my legs and scratch most of night. for over 160 a night for a basic room this place is a rip off. only good thing was staff were really nice and friendly.

Dear Lmira1971,
Thanks for the review and the kind words about our team. However I am concerned about your report of insect activity. Our receptionists have not received any accounts of such problems but if you could contact us with details we would be most grateful. We do have regular pre-emptive pest treatments but we would conduct extra work if we receive reports like this.

Had a two night stay for business. For not a big spend you get a relatively comfortable bed and a good shower. You also get some budget hotel annoyances: small room, a bit noisy with windows. open which need to be as no a/c, loud fridge. The room has been made over but it's bones are looking a bit tired, especially the bathroom. However the staff were very friendly. Had room service one night and was very good also.

The hotel looks as though it has had a good make-over since changing owners earlier in 2013. All the staff were friendly and helpful - maybe Tasmanians are like that. The room was spacious and well equipped, though no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Food in the dining room was fine, and the wines were fresh and enjoyable. Towels and manchester good quality; queen bed, for me, had the balance between soft and firm, very comfortable. Front office staff were really helpful in providing advice and assisting with travel and tours. This hotel was a good find - it is great value and I would be very happy to stay again.

Room Tip: One side of the hotel faces the street. However, the traffic noise (windows not double-glazed) was n...

Stayed at the Best Western Hobart for one night on business. Was supposedly upgraded from queen room to deluxe family room which was not really necessary for a single person. Hotel is clean and tidy but once you head up the lift to your rooms it becomes dated. You can tell its had a fresh coat of paint to try and tidy it up but no proper upgrades done. Room was ok, bed was comfortable but the bathroom was very old with a big old tub/spa/shower that you had to climb in to, it was that tall. Just little things date it and make it feel old, like a old bath tub, curtains etc. Also room was very noisy, old thin windows let all of the traffic noise in. Location is not to bad.

Dear Nate_Aus,
Thanks you for the feedback. We do have an upgrade program in mind so the rooms and bathrooms will be lifted to the quality of the housekeeping and cleanliness. See you again I hope.

I have just stayed with my wife for a long weekend in Hobart at the Best Western. Location was fantastic. The room was very comfortable, spacious and the view was quite nice. They knew we were celebrating our anniversary and left us a welcome chocolate box at our arrival. It was an amazing stay with extremely good service staff. I will definitely stay again.

Just a short walk to absolutely everything in Hobart town - dining, attractions, cultural, sporting, water, everything! Ironically, the free car parking is also fantastic and plentiful.

There are a few areas in need of a freshen up, but the new owners have been telling us regular guests about these plans. I can also recommend joining the Best Western club as I am always offered an upgrade.

All in all, great value in a city lacking hotel choices
