“a friendly welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2006

What a great introduction to Tassie. This little place is run by the nicest people who can give you loads of ideas for places to go, places to eat, etc. Our room wasn't the best but we were comfortable enough and had facilities to do laundry (important when you are away from home for 9 weeks). Breakfasts were delicious and in the evening you can come home for a glass of port before bedtime. Tea and coffee (and sweeties) are available nonstop. Just a short walk from the front, but beware, its a steep uphill on the way back!

This four star B&B really deserves it. Lynn and Lee really know how to make you comfortable. Spa baths are great. The Lodge is close to many good reastaurants.

The lodge was nice at the street conner. We had to park on the street and took the luggage to the lodge from the back entrance. Our room was #8 facing the street. It wsa a quiet night so there was no noise. The room was small with a queen size bed, nice arm chairs, and a small bathroom. Furnshing was very nice. I especially like the heavy curtains to block out the morning light. The breakfast room and sittng room were nicly furnished and comfortable. Breakfast was minimal, no hot food. The lodge location was great, within walking distant to restaurants. 3 blocks away on Elizabeth St. is an Italian restaurant that serves fresh pasta. Can't remember the name but it's across the street from the Indian restaurant. Excellent Italian food. The lodge looks nicer on the internet but it's still nice. It's 5 minutes drive from downtown Hobart, in a quieter and safe section of the city.

Lovely, warm & friendly B & B. The host Steve & his wife were gracious and gave us heaps of tips on what to see & were to go. Very close to town, we walked everywhere which was a bonus for us after the huge breakfast that is included in your room rate.Coffe, tea, juice, toast, muffins, crumpets, various cereals, yogat and fruit!! In the lounge in a fire going and they leave out tea, coffee, marshmellows, biscuits and port for the guests to enjoy! We often came back from a walk in the afternoon or from dinner and found several couples enjoying the port & fire.

I booked this lodge via the internet from home before visting Hobart in mid-May. I had high hopes since this was an historic B&B with a price to match. Even though you cannot rely on photos, the ones on their website look welcoming. The house itself is beautiful and lovingly restored on the outside, but the interior decorations weren't quite all there. A bit disconcerting were the false plastic windows I kept banging my forehead against trying to peer out the real windows. Maybe they are trying to protect the real windows and frames since they are antiques. We had a standard room which was like a mini suite. Unfortunately, the room was on the corner of the house overlooking a busy intersection below. All night we could hear the pedestrian cross walk chirping and cars roaring up and down the street drag-race style. In fact, at 4:30 a.m. I looked out the window (hitting my forehead again!) to see a car doing brodies on the side street below! The host and hostess were very nice, but busy. They offer their washer and dryer to guests (with a small fee) and also left breakfast out for guests who had to catch early flights. I've stayed in many B&Bs in different parts of the world and this one was adequate. The historic structure, old furniture, location and guest ammenitites are the positives, but my overall rating of the lodge is average due to the unfinished feel to the interior, street noise and harried hosts.
