“Paper thin walls II”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2011

Currently staying and have considered moving due to the exceedingly poor noise insulation between the rooms. This is an expensive accomodation option in Hobart and the noise is very intrusive. The room is otherwise fine. The room is clean and well maintained, the bathroom is large and the view is great. The king size bed is two beds pushed together which is a disappointment and uncomfortable along the join!! The "high speed " internet redefines the term and is expensive(as in most Australian hotels).I was given directions to an internet cafe "as it will be cheaper" by the hotel receptionist. I have found the staff very polite and helpful.Overall however, not worth the money and not recommended as there is similar standard accomodation at a better rate very close by. I would be happier to recommend it if the noise issue was not so significant.

The 4 of us stayed at Somerset on the Pier one night too many. Unfortunately, we were in room's 13 and 15, right above the Bar/Nightclub downstairs that stops the music at 2.00am. I was really upset that we were not told about this when checking in or booking. So if you like lying in bed listening to night club music until 2am, this is the hotel for you. Also, the telephone did not work and was told to just use my mobile phone.

We checked out after one night. Will never stay there again.

Yes, I read all the reviews, liked the look of this place - great location, modern and a pretty good price, but The walls really are terrible!

I originally booked in for three nights, but as I write this am searching for another property after just one. I could hear word for word the conversation (sometimes argument) between the couple next door. To be fair they were quiet after around 10pm. What annoyed me most, and spurred me to check out early was that even the lightest step could not avoid the creaking structure at 5am :(

On the plus side, the views are lovely from the balconies across the harbour, and it's great to be so close to Salamanca and plenty of good food outlets.

Room furnishings are more than adequate, although their perception of a 'full kitchen' is very different to mine! Where's the oven?

Shame really, if only they had insulated the walls, I probably wouldn't be writing this at all

Visited Hobart for the weekend, found Somerset on the Pier a great place to stay. Location excellent, very central, one block to the central CBD, handy to Salamanca and many pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Rooms very comfortable, clean and warm. Great outlook as it is over the water, sunrises magnificent every morning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony

SPent a long weekend in and around Hobart - Salamanca Market, MONA and some antique shopping.

Found a deal to stay at SOmerset on the Pier - great rate, great accommodation. A quality 'duplex' apartment, fuly kitted out. We were well looked after by staff. Reception were great.

Ideally located on the pier at the foot of the CBD.

Can't speak highly enough of the Somerset.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms at the far end of the pier.

location is perfect, the view of the markets is beautiful first thing in the morning. I stayed in a studio appartment which had certainly more room than a hotel. The loft bedroom was unique in design, bathroom, kitchen and lounge downstairs. Fridge needs a good clean.

The bathroom maybe dated but was clean and functional.

internet access is poor, suggest using 3G dongle from optus or telstra

Fish frensy cafe at the beginning of the pier is very pleasant as expected in Hobart

Staff extra friendly, including sorting out a booking mishap.

overall, a very pleasant stay

Room Tip: bring own wifi/internet connection

Unfortunately we only found this place for our last night in Tasmania, having booked elsewhere for 4 nights at the start of our trip, and we wish we had found the place first! Excellent position on the pier over the water - our room was facing the markets which would have been nice if it were a Saturday. On check in, the staff were extremely friendly, even accommodating a late checkout for the previous morning. The room was fantastic, modern and clean with a large bathroom, full kitchen and plenty of room for the lounge / dining area. This is a loft style acommodation, so the bedroom is upstairs, however still part of the main living area. We had a 3 year old who spent most of the time going up and down the stairs, however, couples with younger children probably need to watch them a bit more carefully. We also left a book in the bed we came to collect later to find it waiting at reception. Overall, a great spot, with friendly staff and easy access to everything. Only downside was no free wifi, and the internet charges were a bit steep, which I have just heard back from the hotel they are looking to rectify. Surprisingly family friendly for an upmarket accommodation, highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Check their website for rates before booking
