“Great location, some additional services could make it great.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

I stayed for 2 nights on a mostly sunny weekend. The hotel was easy to get to from the airport by shuttle. The check in process was acceptable, as my partner had checked in the day before. The room was pleasant enough, unfortunately facing the mountain side rather than the water. The bed was comfortable and the furnishings pleasant enough. The bathroom was OK, but certainly did not offer toiletries and little extras I would have expected in a Hotel of that category. Towels were average quality. The shower head leaked even when the water was turned to bath spout.
Irritatingly Wi-Fi was not available in the room and internet was not free. So many cheaper hotels offer free internet that I find it irritating that the more expensive ones think they have to charge for it.
The room was serviced either very late morning or early afternoon, which I also find annoying. They should have a list of who is staying and can get it done early, and who is leaving that day.
We did not try the restaurant as there was more choice just nearby. The café was not open early in the morning when I most needed it.

Room Tip: A room facing the water would have been nicer as the views are just splendid.

Location cannot be bettered. Simple as that. Rooms are currently being refurbished but even the old rooms like ours are quite good. Service is excellent. The one downside is breakfast. For years they have put cheese on their grilled tomato. This is completely unnecessary. The potato and the baked beans have weird unnecessary additives too. Lastly nothing is ever hot. The good point is that they cook eggs and omlettes to order. So the longstanding breakfast buffet lets down an otherwise very good to excellent experience.

2 nights in a king room. We were granted a room on level 19 with Harbour and Mount Wellington views. Service and facilities are everything you would expect from a 4+ star Hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and staff were always friendly and courteous. The Tasman Restaurant is well appointed offering well prepares local produce.

Hello, I stayed here with my partner two weeks ago. We were very impressed with the position and the view. We looked out directly at the famous Constitution Dock, the Harbour and the Wharves. However, the rooms were not clean, even though we were in one of the newly renovated rooms. We were there for a few days so I happened to notice the time that the cleaners were spending to clean rooms near us. They spent a total of 3 to 5 minutes vacuuming the room and the rest of the cleaning was done within about 15 minutes. I realised that this was the reason I was waking up each morning with hayfever. I pulled the bed out from the wall and there was a layer of fluff, dust and firt underneath the bed. There was also dust and dirt around all the edges of the carpet and the bathroom floor was not clean either.

On our floor there was a small sitting area just outside the lifts. The tables were sticky and covered in dirt. They were not cleaned the whole time we stayed which was 4 days.

Room Tip: For the best view you need to choose Superior Harbour View Room from the 17th floor upward and room...

Attended a conference at Grand Chancellor Hobart and stayed there for couple days is the most horrible place that I had ever in my experience.front area like Mezz, grand ballroom and lobby during conference looks clean, tidy and perfect but is not at the back area dirty and stinky ( unpleasant place ) . I accidentally went to the back area. What I could said " Disgusting " hard to believe a big and good hotel in Hobart. Plus staff do not know how to answer in appropriate manner ( found some of the staff they cannot understand English very well ) . Room just average . Breakfast in Tasman room below average . Definitely will not recommend Grand Chancellor Hobart to anyone . Disappointed . I would recommend Henry Jones or Hotel Collins.

Fantastic stay in Grand Chancellor , free room upgrade to one bedroom suite, beautifully appointed and a view across the water to die for! Very clean and comfortable. Only negative no free wi fi ( actually no wi fi at all on thru cable which u have to pay for and is no good for iPad)

Room Tip: Ask for room over looking water corner rooms eg 2004 gives view of water and mountain.

My wife and I had a really nice two day stay at the Hobart Grand Chanceller to attend a conference. Got an upgrade to a two room suite on 18th floor with a great view over the harbour and river. Service was great and everything was just terrific. Room had been refurbished and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

Room Tip: xSee if you can get a room facing the river
