“Good location,spacious rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Good location across from waterfront and close to shops and Salamanca Place.Restaurants nearby and plentiful.Rooms spacious, very clean and well appointed ,staff friendly and efficient. We had a room on the corner at the back, with view uptown and of Mt Wellington and across towards Salamanca, nice view ,not as spectacular as the rooms facing the waterfront, and also quite noisy from the street traffic.Breakfast was good,no complaints. No free wifi yet,but apparently they are upgrading that soon.No lift from carpark,so had to carry suitcases up flights of stairs,so make sure you drop your luggage off first at reception, then park car.

Room Tip: Ask for a room up high and facing the waterfront

Stayed in this hotel for business. Room is big enough overlooking Constitution Dock. Hotel facilities are modern and staff were courteous and attentive. I'd recommend this hotel to business travellers and would suit holiday makers as well.

Stayed here for a short business trip. Location right next side of the harbour is excellent, a short walk to the CBD and a variety of local restaurants.
Rooms are a decent size, clean and well presented. Staff were friendly and helpfull throughout my stay.
Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in hobart.

The Grand Chancellor in Hobart is a rather ugly modern building with a good location just by the waterfront. The rooms are nice, spacious and fresh in white and brown. The room has hair dryer, iron and tea kettle which is all great but the TV is terrible. There are no cable channels and the reception on some of the local ones is not great.
The hotel has a gym which is mediocre as it does not seem to have AC and it is located next to the pool. The worst thing with the gym though are the strange old gym mats , why can they not buy a couple of yoga mats, they cost next to nothing.
The main reason I do nit give this hotel a 4 star however is that the rooms facing the waterfront are so noisy that one cannot sleep. Heavy traffic starts at 4 am(!) and the single pane windows do nothing to block it out. In addition, rooms do not have wifi and the hotel charges for it in the reception area when you can simply step outside and pick up free Tassi wifi. To end on a positive note, the hotel provides a laundry room where you can wash your clothes for a small amount.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 19,20th floor or one not facing the waterfront

We stayed here for a few days before my husband attended a conference in the hotel. The room was large, quiet and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable. The harbour is across the street so a great location.

However, there is currently no wifi in the rooms, only Ethernet. In fairness, the hotel is working on changing this and wifi is available in the lobby. But there is a charge. For this reason, we would not stay here again.

While paying close to 200.00 a night in a hotel that markets itself to business and convention travel, complimentary Internet should be included.

Room Tip: Harbour view rooms are lovely.

Stayed in refurbished harbour view room on level 14 for two nights.
Reception staff courteous and efficient so booking in and out was quick and painless.
Room well furnished with bench and chair, desk and office chair, coffee table with single and two seat sofa chairs. Very comfortable king size bed that was really king size, not two king singles zipped together as seen too often these days. Pillow menu with good range of pillows. Bathroom with adequate bench space, blissful rain shower head (slightly spoilt by being over a narrow bath with a short length of glass screen so it was hard not to get a lot of water on the floor).
Room was very clean. Air-conditioning efficient though a little loud. Windows can be opened for fresh air, and offer a lovely view of the harbour and Derwent River.
Hotel has the major highway through the city on either side, but noise was not a problem, even with the windows open.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of the docks, restaurants, city centre and Salamanca Place.
The hotel has parking underneath for $8 (self park), just remember to unload your bags first as there is no lift from the carpark to reception..
Internet access is not free, and wifi is yet to be provided in all rooms
Not a cheap hotel, but Hobart is not a cheap city for accommodation, so the rates are competitive for the location.

A large hotel located close to the harbour, city and Salamanca markets. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. The rooms are large with views over the harbour or city. The decor is simple and modern, nice. The king bed was not comfortable. The shower was a complete disaster. Shower water flowed across the floor, reaching the toilet and far wall (under the vanity basins). Consequently, the floor was wet whilst we were using a hair dryer and applying make-up. Additionally, the shower set was in need of repair as we couldn't secure the hand piece to the wall bracket. There was evidence that a previous occupant had also tried to resolve the wall bracket issue; second time round, we created a barrier with the floor mat and hand towels to resolve the drainage issue. We were on the 18th floor and could hear the traffic noise from the street below. Would we stay again, no.
