“Family of 4 with two kids - just stayed - very happy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Hi, We stayed one night (Thurs 1 Nov 2012). We are a family with two kids aged 10 and 12. We are generally happy to stay 3.5 star. We are happy if accommodation is clean, safe, well located and it doesn't have to have the very latest in decor.

We were very happy with the Fountainside. We arrived around 8.30pm and were leaving the next morning. We were able to walk the 5 mins to the waterfront and there is a Woolworths also within walking distance.

The room was clean and quiet. The room was an L shape so that when you first enter there is a kitchenette plus eating area in the corner of the room - has a corner window above it to look out at the view. The table and bench seating is like in a caravan - built into the corner.

Then there is a bathroom - clean, powerful shower. Not the latest tiles nor taps but didn't bother us.

Next is the lounge/bedroom area. It had a queen bed and 2 single beds with tv.

The only odd thing was the large step into the room from the main door - a bit difficult to have to lift suitcases over it instead of just wheeling in but really not a problem.

I would recommend this hotel - good location, quiet, and well equipped for a family.

This smaller hotel on the edge of the Hobart CBD could well be ordinary, but it is not. I had the cheapest room type bought through an advance purchase internet booking service and I ended up on the 5th floor overlooking the Hobart Domain gardens. The room had been modernised in all respects: nothing tatty at all, with the bathroom particularly snazzy. The room charge was modest, but the really extraordinary aspect was the ancillary charges: $11.80 for a full hot good buffet breakfast, 5c/MB for fast WiFi (3 days use checking e-mails and reading news cost me under $4) and $2.50 for a light beer from the mini-bar, $3.50 for a heavy. Other mini-bar prices similarly cheap. Oh, I wish all hotels were so reasonable, but I have never found one before. There was faint traffic noise through the heavy glass window from the roundabout below, but not enough to disturb my sleep in the slightest - this is Hobart after all, not Sydney.

Room Tip: The higher the better to be further above the main road out front.

Stayed in the family room with one queen bed and two single beds. The room is clean and spacious, the little kitchen has everything we need! Given the very reasonable price and location I would recommend this hotel.

Fabulous beds, great shower/bathroom, spotlessly clean and nothing too much trouble. Would choose to stay again - could walk to everywhere....Late on the first night, we needed softer pillows - not a problem - the lady at reception gave us two feather pillows which were perfect. Loved that we didn't touch our vehicle from parking when we arrived to packing when we left. Best value in Hobart....especially breakfast

This was great value for money and despite another review saying it is not 4 star I do not agree. Beautiful clean room, reasonable size, lovely bathroom. Did I say great value. Wonderful location. Loved the minibar prices. Usually I will leave a hotel, go and buy a snack and come back, rather than pay the ridiculous prices they charge for minibar items. Different story here. Most affordable. I had night time meals in the restaurant. Good value here too and very tasty.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view and face the same way. Lift in good location so no real concerns here.

We could not fault this hotel. It is well located in the CBD, close to the wharf area, with free parking. We had a room on the 7th floor, which was renovated only about a year ago. The double glazing kept the traffic noise down to a minimum.

Meals and drinks at the hotel were remarkably good and inexpensive, so we tended to eat there, rather than elsewhere - but also because there are few eating and drinking opportunities in the immediate vicinity.

We found the staff responsive and helpful.

The rickety lift was almost scary. The room gives a sense of a nice caravan as you walk through the kitchenette and the corner table. The room is clean and tidy. Comfy bed. Good TV. Main thing is good location and good value brekky. Nothing special but the staff were really very good. Not 4 star.
