“Work trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We stayed at Wrestpoint Casino for 3 nights for a work conference. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. My bedding was great however my room mate inspected her bedding and found a hair in there. This was reported to reception and was attended to within 5 minutes. We were on the 14th floor with great views of the water and surrounds, Breakfast is pretty expensive but probably in line with most hotels at $22 for continental (cereal, yoghurt, fruit etc) and $27 for full breakfast. The conference facilities were great and all staff around the area were also very helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a water facing room or you will be faced with the car park.

We purchased a cheap 2 nights and then read super ordinary reviews. I am very pleased to record excellent warm service, a room with a window that could be opened, incredible views and vantage to Yachts, sailing and harbour sights. After stuffing our face in town the walk home was just perfect, taxi cost minimal and driving a snack. MONA is a must and the Wrest Point Hotel was good value for us.

We stayed at the Hotel Collins, but we had friends stay here. They were delighted to receive an upgrade from a Tower Mountain View room to a Habourview Executive suite and I thought I d share some pictures of it.

We visit Hobart once a month and we always stay at Wrest Point as it is not far to travel to shops.
The view from the Harbour Tower rooms are marvellous and my partner like watching boats and yachts on the river Derwent. The sunrise in the morning is just brilliant!Rooms are comfortable and the staff are excellent.,

Room Tip: ask for a room in the tower with a view of the river..just great!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

I recently stayed with my wife on a business trip to Hobart and was stunned to learn what rates the hotel was charging for he weekend, over $400 per night for a 'Harbour View Room'but anyway thought the rooms must be pretty good for that sort of money so after my initail shcok didnt think about it.

On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who was prompt and efficient. Arriving at our room and opening the door was like a twilight zone moment, right then and there we had entered a time machine and gone back 30 years, atleast the room was clean. As someone who likes movies it was disappointing to see the tiny CRT TV sitting in the cupboard with a fuzzy picture, surely at a minimum a flat screen TV could have been installed? The view was however excellent which half made up for everything else.

Later that day we looked around the rest of the property and found the staff to be the highlight alwasy smiling and professional, no doubt the hotels best asset.

On Saturday evening we dined at the revolving restaurant and have to say it was a great experience, the serive was first rate and the food was some of the best I have had in many years. Thank you to the team there for a lovely night.

The next morning we got up and went to brekafst in the Buffet restaurant, it was about 5 past 10, the restaurant closes at 10,30 as the Supervisor was walking toward us she kept looking at her watch as if to say why are you here, when she got to us she promptly told us the restaurant closes at 10.30 and if we could eat in that time we could come in, I thought to myself if she looks at her watch one more time I was going to thump her! So we rushed in and got a couple of plates but seriously the food was a big let down, very little variety for a buffet and what was there was sorry to say just rubbish. Disappointing after such great food upstairs.

Well that was pretty much our brief trip to the hotel. Except for the girl in the restaurant the staff were excellent especially the door man, who always had a smile and a chat.

If they just invested a few dollars on the rooms the hotel could be really excellent but to be honest I would look to stay somehwere else just based on the rooms unless you would like a 70's revival!

Room Tip: Harbour view wins hands down

We stayed in a wing room that had lovely views of the water however if we had stayed in the room next to us the view would have been blocked by a huge tree. The room itself was fine having been recently refurbished however the journety to the room showed the hotel was in need of refurbishment. the worst part of the stay was using the hotels valet service which indeed hotel staff encouraged us to use. Big mistake. It was hot and sunny in Hobart during our stay and our car was left in the hot sun all day and delivered to use baking hot in the late afternoon, despite the hotel having a large mainly empty undercover carpark only meters for the front door they chose to leave our car in all day sun. Our bottle of wine inadertently left in the car was ruined.

Will not be returning.

I would never had booked a room in the hotel, because I am not a gambling person. However, some friends stayed there for a night, so we joined them. Now, where do I start ?
The room(s) were just awful and unclean - dirty carpets, chipped tiles, moldy grout, soap residue, ..., the smell of damp throughout the place.
We had a glass of (very ordinary) wine at the 'Onyx' bar - simply unbelievable. Rickety furniture, dirty glasses on the tables - our table still showed the drink stains from the previous patrons. No table service, cheap stem ware, no nibblies, no wine list, ...
The service matches the property. For example, the reception desk has four stations, but only one operator was on duty during the busy morning period - and a long queue of people checking out.
Stay in somewhere in town, where you can find a lot better for your money.

Room Tip: Stay away.
