“more than meets the eye”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

i did both the historical walking tour and then the 'Her story' tour, I'd recommend doing both tours in this order! the walking tour gave great insight into the history of the place, whereas Her story really brought it to life. over time, the site was not recognised as heritage property early enough so unfortunately a lot of the original structure has been lost - it is really just the enclosing walls that remain. there is a little bit of info on plaques etc, but the majority of information came from the guides. when doing both tours it is quite expensive, but really worthwhile.

“An educational experience”

the ruins were interesting and the site gives you a chance to imagine the conditions of yesteryear. Its a pity that most of the buildings have been demolished

“Must Do The "Her Story" Tour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

When you go to the site, it's basically four walls. We took the "Her Story" tour and the acting was amazing! Seriously.

The dramatization brought the entire site to life. It made us empathize with the people and what life must have been like.

If you have seen Port Arthur, then you *must* come here. It makes Port Arthur sound like a picnic.

“Female Factory”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

As a descendant of one of the women who was sent to the Female Factory and lost a child while there, it was a very sobering experience. The Her Story tour is a must, otherwise you won't appreciate as much due to the lack of walls and written info. The actors were excellent and drew you right in to the atmosphere of the place.

“Tasmania 2012”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Amazing history of the hardship and horror that the women experienced. The play "Her Story" was very realistic and informative. We felt as though we had stepped into the female prisoner's shoes, bringing tears to the eye's. The tour was also very informative, this and the re-enactment complimented each other. It would have been good to stay longer in the warden's house and read the literature and view the photos but the tour guide was happy to stop whist we took photos to review and read later. Small but a lot of history from the female prisoner perspective.
