Walked in off the street to get a room at this hotel and was pleasantly rewarded.
The room, located on the first floor was in the older section of the building and was wheel chair accessible.
Room 108 is large, spacious, has a full size fridge, kitchenette and is tastefully decorated. Spotlessly clean, modern and the bathroom large due to the wheel chair access, huge shower! Water pressure awesome!
Overall a great room, well priced and located right in town.

So that's all good, though the restaurant..............picture this -

Sitting down for breakfast and the waitress is carrying two coffees, one in each hand, she sneezes three times over the top of them and proceeds to head to the table of the unlucky recipients and the following conversation occurs - waitress "I just sneezed which is really hard to do when you're carrying two coffees" Customer - "I would never had known that if you hadn't told me".............GROSS!

Then, my partner ordered pancakes with "the ice cream on the side please" when the pancakes arrived and the ice cream was atop, I looked at the waitress (different waitress) and she said "yeah, sorry about that, the chef put the ice cream on top before I could tell her not to" she turned and walked away.....WTF?

One other thing, the following mini bar products were out of date - Chips, chocolate, beer (more than 12 months out of date), cans of scotch etc.

Small gripes. Would stay there again though would not revisit the restaurant.

Room Tip: 108 huge room with kitchen.

the Hotel collins is conveniently located within walking distance of the CBD and the waterfront restaurants. the hotel staff were very friendly and accomodated us in adjoining rooms when it appeared none were available. the hote; is not large but has a welcoming atmosphere. Nearby secure parking is quite reasonable especilly at weekends. Rooms are not huge but we were quite comfortable. on the downside i could not connect to the wifi in the room only when we went to the downstairs lounge did it connect with no hassles.

Very good location, very close to centre of the city, supermarket and hospital (if you like to visit hospitals, some do...). Very friendly staff, especially the younger guy with the semi mullet, employee of the month for me hands down. The room was clean, albeit a little small, good shower pressure and a reasonable t.v. Did not try the restaurant, however the prices seemed reasonable.

After frequenting the hotel for over 2 years, I made a complaint and have now been asked not to return. I have emails to validate my complaint and the hotels response.
It is very disappointing that a small business in Hobart can do so much damage to its reputation.

The wait staff have always gone out of their way to be polite and give excellent service, unfortunately your management has let you down.
As requested will never return and will advise others to seek alternative accommodation and there are numerous and more accommodating eating establishments that will be getting my business and that of my companions.

We stayed 5 nights in a King Apartment.

Positives: very friendly staff, very clean, new and modern, kitchen included and near a super market, very good location, can walk to a lot of attractions, very good cleaners, the shuttle drops you off there first from the airport, plenty of room in the hotel room.
Negatives: the shower was low-flow and water went all over the bathroom, the wi-fi did not always work well (I assume when a lot of people were using it), bad views of car parks etc, tv was small and very few stations (which you need because Hobart does not have much of a night life), no pool, no real sofa in the room even though there was enough room for it, we could here the person in the room above us taking a shower at 5 am and woke us up, the bed was not amazing but it was nice and big.

Overall, very good. The fact that it was so clean and the staff were soooo wonderful is a huge positive!

Staff were all very friendly - Greg and Felicity were real stand-outs with happy personalities, great smiles and a willingness to please. Accommodated an early check-in and late check-out with no fuss, the room was made up very well by room service (very much above average), free wi-fi that actually works well (unlike many places), it was a positive experience with a positive feeling about it. Only criticism I could think of is that the bed suffered from the "two single beds pushed together" syndrome with the hard bar vertically down the middle and felt a little worn out. Great place, thank you!

We stayed at the Hotel Collins for four nights. We paid extra for a club room which are on higher levels and were supposed to have a view. We ended up with a view of a car park with a little water view. That was disappointing but it didn't really matter. The size of the room was also a concern with no where really to put our luggage out of the way. Their website shows photos of bigger rooms so that might be something to say about. What was more disappointing was the loud music coming from somewhere nearby on Friday and Saturday nights. We went to bed early Friday night needing a good night's sleep only to be kept awake until late but thought it would be ok we could catch up on Saturday night. We no sooner hit the pillows on Saturday night and the music started again and this time it didn't stop until 12:30am. We weren't impressed at all. We realise it isn't the hotel's fault but we left thinking never again. Breakfast was included in the room rate and it was ok however being it was supposed to be a full breakfast we thought we would have had more choices of hot food other than eggs cooked three ways on toast. Wireless internet was included in the rooms but it wasn't working in our room on the first day. The hotel was quick to rectify this and by the next night it was working without any problems. So that was a plus. Apart from these couple of issues we did like the Hotel Collins but it just wasn't as good as we hoped.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view if you are paying for a club room and make sure it is one of bigger ones...
