“Fantastic atmosphere for a quiet little pub?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Good atmosphere within 5 minutes walking distance from Salamanca Place. In Battery Point close the old shipbuilding area and an old fashioned pub for the yachties. Fabulous meals (make a booking) good prices and the service is superb and friendly.

Room Tip: No accommodation.

Staying in Battery Point we decided to try the local pub for dinner. We went with fairly low expectations and sadly even these weren't met! We were shown to a table and then forgotten about. We should have given up then and left but as it was fairly quiet I went to the bar and asked for service. To give the waitress her due she was extremely apologetic, even though she wasn't the member of staff who seated us. My husband ordered the expensive fillet steak option which turned out to be the worst fillet steak he has ever had and he had suspicions that it may well have been a cheaper cut. Furthermore it came with chips and not the scalloped potatoes he ordered, when we queried this the waiter said they had run out, it would have been nice to have been advised of this beforehand. There are a number of other restaurant options in Battery Point, some of which we tried during our stay, which provided far superior dining experiences. I have to conclude this was the worst meal we had during our 3 week stay in Tasmania.

If you want a beer, pub food or a sit down meal to relax in Tassie history then come here and enjoy. Walk around and look at the sailing and yachting history on the walls and roof. .. This is a must stop if your staying in battery point or just a time out while walking around the historic area. Talk to the locals and if Jim is at the bar say G'day... This is a hobart MUST.

We dropped by early in the evening after a stroll around Battery Point and were lucky enough to get a table. The seafood chowder was incredible, fresh seafood in a delicate but creamy sauce. Great and friendly service.

Well located and enthusiastic staff. Dinner pricey but pretty good - perhaps it was because it was Sunday evening of holiday weekend.
Nice area.
Recommend walk around dock area and Salamanca - very neat

We had the most relaxed time here its a quieter area but a short walk to the city, salamanca and waterfront easily in 10 mins, the rooms are nice and have TVs and air/con, a breakfast room is also available. The very best Pub counter meal we had was here and the cheapest, it was divine!

Room Tip: An ensuite room is best.

Stayed 2 nights and LOVED it. Bar Staff were really friendly and helpful. Locals and visitors in the bar all friendly, great to have a yarn to. Ensuite rooms were very clean and big. Had dinner in the restaurant, great food!! Day room has tv and heaps of tourist brochures, magazines and books to read. Couldnt find laundry, not sure if there is one??? Private entrance to rooms from car park out the back. Beautiful old pub.

Room Tip: Ensuite rooms are great, very quiet area, no street noise at all. No fridge in room, but there's...
