“Prepare to freeze”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Mt Wellington is definitely a place to visit when in Hobart. The drive (or run for the foolhardily energetic) is winding, and the road is just wide enough for comfort. Some great views can only be glimpsed in passing because there is no where to park. There is however plenty of parking at the summit. Be prepared for the cold and wind - it can easily be 10 degrees Celsius (or morwe) colder at the top than in the city. The views over the city and river are magnificent. The views inland are bleak and forbidding - real wilderness.
A cafe at the top would be welcome. There are new and decent toilet facilities (with a view).
I need to return at night.

“Quiet nights in Australia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Really enjoyed wandering around the roads of Tasmania. Lovely scenery, uncrowded and slow paced with interesting history. You never know what is around the corner, debris from the recent fires, or the most interesting vegetation, older buildings imaginatively converted for use in the present day and wonderful vistas

“Great views from the top, but the drive isn't for the faint hearted!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

A windy road to the top. We had a lovely sunny day so the views were spectacular and we could see for miles. If you don't like heights then the drive might be a bit scary.

“Excellent views.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Excellent views and worth the drive, but the drive itself was a bit scary, Just be aware that sometimes you cannot lock your car with the automatic keys, or start your car. There are signs around warning you this may happen and how to remedy the problem. Worth the trip.

“Great view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Drove to the top of Mt Wellington to see the wonderful views of Hobart and surrounds. Didn't realise how freezing cold and windy it would be (should have given it more thought!) but luckily we had jumpers in the car. Wind was still biting cold though. We were also lucky no clouds were blocking any of the view, although it was slightly hazy.

The interpretation centre is very good, with information about the mountain, it's exploration and signs pointing out the various things you can see in the distance. It's also a welcome break from the wind outside! There are also bathrooms, although they're in a separate building (so we didn't notice them at first).

We didn't realise how many viewing platforms there would be so you can get photos from many angles. Spent about an hour appreciating the views and reading the information in the centre. Could equally imagine someone popping out for 5 mins to snap a few photos then heading off again but we like our photography.
