“A great day in the snow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

We decided to go up to Ben Lomond for the first time since living in Tassie (6 years). It was bitterly cold with a very strong wind, but we had a ball. The pub had simple but very tasty fare, and the staff and owner in particular were extremely friendly and more than willing to have a chat, despite being busy. The shuttle bus driver couldn't have been more helpful. All in all, a great, fun day that didn't cost the earth. (There is a park entry fee).

“Climb the ladder its worth the view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2012

Ben Lomond National Park is an hours drive from Launceston. The final 17 kms are dirt road and climb. It is a straight forward drive through bush until you reach Jacobs Ladder. This is a steep road with switchbacks and hairpin turns and hardly no safety barrier. It is short but challenging drive but at the top is a short boardwalk to a fantastic viewpoint over the valley below. It can be icy cold even in the middle of summer.
A littrle further on is the skiing village. In summer your options are limited as there are no facilities and few marked walking tracks. We followed the snowpoles and scrambled up and down some hills and although there was some nice views they could not compare to the lookout at the top of Jacobs Ladder.
We have heard that in winter this doubles as Tasmanias primary ski slopes.

“A Dream!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2012

I have been wanting to drive up Jacob's Ladder to Ben Lomond for many years, and it was even more exciting that I expected. The road is treacherous, and although plenty of 2WDs make the journey, I'd be very nervous without the extra traction an extra pair of drive wheels provides. Of course, they're no benefit on the way down!
Of course, it's the scenery that people come for in the summer, and it's spectacular. I've seen plenty of photos over the years, but they don't do it justice. It is breathtaking. We didn't stay, but he resort looks very accommodating.
