“Epitome of luxury”

We traveled here for our honeymoon at the end of November, beginning of December and stayed for four nights. It was absolutely wonderful and relaxing and staff really treats you right. They pick you up from the Kingscote airport if you are flying in and will drive you about 50 minutes back to the lodge. Once you arrive, you are treated to the most amazing view of the Southern Ocean from the main room windows. They sit you down and go over your stay's itinerary, none of which is mandatory to do. I would highly recommend booking any spa appointments prior to arriving if you want to go to the spa to ensure that you can get in. Take all of the tours that are included while you are there as they really treat you to what the island as to offer from champagne with the kangaroos at dusk, to Flinders Chase National Park, to the cliff side tour and being on a beach with seals at Seal Bay. I also recommend bringing your Dramamine if you get car sick because some of the rides can be a bit bumpy to these places. But again, staff will make sure you are comfortable no matter what.

The food is out of this world. Many things that I tried there I've never had, and probably never will again as I can't find them in the United States. They have a beautiful wine cellar and a full open bar, where they even named a drink after us. Make sure to ask Sally there for the R&B Malibu made with KI gin, it is delicious.

The room was wonderful and gorgeous. We had a wonderful stay here and really loved the staff. Thank you!

Stayed here for one night this week as part of a corporate group booking for the whole lodge. An amazing experience from arrival to departure. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and shown to an open bar area to enjoy the hospitality and beautiful view along the spectacular coast line. Dinner was sensational with superb food and matching service. Major emphasis on local ingredients used in interesting and innovative ways and served with high quality local wines. Accommodation was also sensational with a variety of highly specified suites. Could hear the waves crashing on the rocks at night time! Breakfast was great and nothing was too much trouble for the pleasant staff during our visit. This lodge is both sympathetically integrated into the environment and set up to maximise enjoyment of the beautiful views. Seems expensive but staying here is a unique life experience!

This was one of my wife's Birthday presents to me for my 50th,from the moment we walked through the big wooden doors and saw the view we both knew it was going to be an unforgettable experience. We were not disappointed, we had a Remarkable Suite, number 6, if you can request it, it was amazing, sitting in the outdoor hot tub drinking champagne while watching the sun set. Comming back from dinner and having your curtains closed, bed turned down and fire lit all added to make this place special.
The food was incredible, breakfast lunch and dinner were all meals that were made with love and nothing was to much trouble for the chefs, with matching wines for each course it was like dining in a Michelin Star Restaurant.
The open bar, the organised trips you could take, sitting around the fire place in the evening getting to know other guests, the board walk, the sudden change in weather, the rugged coastline, each and every moment of our stay was memorable.
Without a doubt it is the staff that make this place what it is, they were amazing, you could tell that they loved what they were doing, they all went that little further to maximise our Southern Lodge Experience. A big thank you to Manea, Sarah, Alex, Kristie and Sally and all the other staff we came into contact with.
I also hired a car on the island, upon leaving i was told i had a flat tyre, they had organised one of there staff to change the tyre for me, the service was never ending.
Thank you, and we will be back.

A heavenly retreat from the bitter winds of winter, cosily ensconced in your amazing room with a view, your cares will melt away..and did I mention the spa?? This is my idea of living. The natural surrounds are really complemented by the design and layout of the resort and the food on offer is sumptuous, plentiful and always fresh and tasty.
The staff were really helpful and the included day trips were a must. Whether you want to while away the hours on your day bed contemplating the universe, relax in the spa, curl up by the fire with a book or chase the native fauna around. There is something for everyone and you will leave feeling spoilt and happy.
Being gluten free they really looked after my needs, in a thoughtful and helpful manner.
My only quibble... having to save up to return. Meanwhile, I'll be dreaming about the food.

Room Tip: Room number 9 was just beautiful with its circular lounge room around the fire and outdoor spa. If y...

Stayed here with a small group of friends and we were all so impressed with the location, service, food, wine, cocktails (open bar), activities and little touches like the incredibly beautiful blankets, slippers and great range of in room complimentary mini bar products. Was so sad to leave. The hot spa could have been a little warmer but it was still fine and a view to die for. Had a very relaxing massage in the amazingly located day spa- what a view (again)! Feel very lucky to have stayed in this gorgeous place. The main lodge/reception area is beautifully furnished- so relaxing just staring out at the blue ocean.

Room Tip: We had quite a walk up to the main lodge from our room but that is a small complaint as at least it...

and they did! Hard to know where to start with this review. The setting and hotel were beautiful, of course, but what sets SOL apart was the genuine feeling from the staff that they truly wanted their guests to be totally happy. They stood to please. It's nice to be pampered.

The food was amazing! The chef has to be one of the most creative ever. One small example: as a pre-dinner nibble, we were served an egg, still in shell, that had been soft boiled, extracted by removing the very top, mixed with a bit of cheese (I'm guessing), returned to the shell, and served to be eaten with a tiny spoon. This is no "crank out the food" kitchen.

The excursions such as "Kangaroos and Kanapes", viewing sea lions and seals were so much fun, and the group leaders so informative. That it rained almost every day didn't dampen the field trips.

All this being said, this being a five star resort, don't think it's stuffy. Dress is casual, even at dinner.

The only thing we hated was having to leave.

There's not a lot that can be added to the multitude of fabulous reviews for SOL, all of which are thoroughly deserved. This place has been on our "to go to" list for 5 years, and our expectations were very high, but happily exceeded.

The rooms are amazing (we had a Flinders suite) - beautifully designed, great view. As we were checking in a pod of dolphins appeared in the bay below, and the following morning while we were getting ready to head out a whale breached in the sea right in front of our room. Awesome!

Three standouts for us - the food was simply fantastic, but even better than that, the menu design and portion sizes were perfect. There are not many places where you can have 3 meals of several courses a day and never feel stuffed, over full, or bursting, but SOL got it spot on. Not only was the food delicious, it was also inventive and perfectly judged. We've eaten at many Michelin restaurants and this deserves a star.

The wine cellar was great, and choosing wine pre dinner was most enjoyable, especially with the input of one of the staff who really knew her stuff re wine.

Secondly, my spa treatment was one of the best facials I have ever had. Very sorry not to remember the therapist’s name, perhaps Becky or Bec, it was an abbreviated name, but she was brilliant. I have had a lot of facials, and she had some special little touches which just made it most enjoyable and relaxing.

Thirdly, the whole design of the lodge was brilliant, luxurious but not blingy - you felt comfortable in the most casual of clothes - they said treat the lounge as your lounge and you really felt as though you could.

Lovely people to chat with in the bar after dinner, and very friendly staff.

Any caveats? Well a couple of tiny things. Some of the staff are there training as part of their degrees or courses (? not exactly sure of the detail here, but they are definitely trainees). We don't think that a top end, very top priced establishment like this, is the place to train people. You want to feel that at all times you are in safe capable hands with regard to customer service, and once or twice we had someone serve us at dinner who was clearly utterly petrified of the guests and really not confident or experienced enough. A maître d' presence in the restaurant may have helped this. But to counter it, the experienced professional staff were superb.

Also, it would be good if the management could sort out a) the really quite horrid smell as you exit the main lodge and head towards the spa - presumably it's the septic tank but some re-siting is needed here and b) wifi. We've been at more remote places with better wifi. Not the end of the world as you're not there to be online, but to be honest, it would be better to say that it's not available than to say it is but have it so utterly unreliable and erratic.

But none of these things detracted from our pleasure at being there or the great time that we had.

Should also mention the quad biking - great fun, especially after a downpour with lots of puddles to splash through.

A brilliant luxury experience, and somewhere we would definitely return to. 100% recommended.

Room Tip: We were exactly half way down, so a bit of an uphill walk, but also close to the walk entrance to th...
