“Town more interesting than the motel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Stayed here one night as part of a tour. Room was ok but breakfast was very poor. Very little choice and couldn't even get a yoghurt and only fruit available came out of a tin! Breakfast room dark and uninviting. Didn't have dinner here as tour operator preferred Joe's pizza parlour and looking at the menu of the Opal Inn I couldn't blame him!

Room Tip: downstairs better than upstairs as do not have to lug the bags up the stairs

We managed to get a spot backing onto the only grassed area, which was good for kids to play around. Amenities clean although 20c for showers required. Although you could hear street noise, despite being at back of motel, although I think most of Coober Pedy would of heard it this night. If I was to call in on Coober Pedy again, I would definitely take an underground motel room. As camp sites are nothing much, and that would be a real experience and you wouldn't hear any local riff raff noise.

Coober Pedy is well worth a visit, and this is a place to sleep.

Its a motel pure and simple. Won't blow your socks off and won't blow your budget either.

I'm sure there are more interesting places to stay, but this place isn't bad.

Stayed two nights and really enjoyed our time. Very clean room, not sound proof, but you get what you pay for. Can't speak highly enough about the staff. Very friendly and informative. They even get you to and from the airport. Massive meals served in the restaurant both at lunch and in the evening. Breakfast was adequate, only I did nip across the road for some yoghurt for my second breakfast. Would definitely stay again. A lovely community in Coober Pedy. Well done, and keep it up.

I've stayed here three different times, but not because it's particularly good; simply because it's relatively cheap and offers acceptable quality. The first night I stayed here (Oct 2009), I stayed in a ground floor standard room. It was clean and had everything you would expect for a three star room, but the air-conditioner was too small for the space and even turned up full-bore, it never really cooled the room properly. The second time was Sep 2010, when I stayed in a first floor standard room. It was a bit of a come down from the Mud Hut motel, which I had stayed at the previous night (and highly recommend), but it was good enough. Once again, clean, functional and not too shabby. The weather was cooler this time, so I can't comment on the air-conditioning. The third time was Oct 2010 (on my way back from Darwin). This time I stayed in a budget room, which was about $65, if I recall). This room was certainly a case of getting what you pay for. it was pretty crumby and there were a couple of dead flies on the window sills, which made me wonder what other cleaning the proprietors may have skimped on; had they even changed the sheets and towels? I dread to think! Still, the airconditioning in this room, though an extremely noisy old unit, worked very well indeed.

Large complex with a mixture of rooms...Greyhound stops directly opposite so easy access to motel. It is situated at the top of the high street, so easy access to shops and the post office.Bistro in complex served extremely generous portions at dinner, breakfast was a continental buffet self service, you could also order cooked food if wished....Food well presented and good quality.
Room was good size with a double and a single bed, plus a settee that converted into a pull out bed....Good supply of clean linen and toileteries, tea, milk etc... Room was bright cheerful, clean and welcoming. Guest laundry in caravan park at the back of rooms, reasonable priced for wash and dry.....Staff very efficient, helpful and informative re trips etc. Very pleasant, welcoming feel in all area's of the complex. Would highly recommend to travellers.....a brilliant stay and our thanks to our hosts...
