“Yannis a gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

I visited Umoona and was really impressed with the informative Displays on the way in. I didn't know much about Opals and ended up meeting Yanni the owner. He was very patient and explained the background and differences between opals.i think he's been doing it for 41 years and he's passionate about it. I ended up buying a few nice pieces in my price range which I was pretty pleased with. When you see the work that goes into finding Opal ,cutting & polishing it makes you appreciate them a lot more. Also did the Underground Mine & House Tour at Umoona. If was a privilege to spend time with Yanni, no selling just passion and knowledge.was a neat experience.thanks.

“The fossils are a must see”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

The are two "museums" in Coober Pedy but they are quite different so you really need to see both. Having said that, we really only say the fossils part of this one which is fantastic. There are several fossiled creastures, opals at various stages of formation, lots of information about how opals are formed and the inland sea. We saw all of this in the free area. If you want to see more, you have to pay for a tour. We arrived at the wrong time for a tour so the operators treated us like a nuisance and didnt even want to tell us when we could come back to do the tour. I am dont know what we missed but the free bit was fastastic and only takes about 20 mins. If you are pushed for time and cash, just pop in a do that bit.

“Great underground museum!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Hottest small town with hottest underground museum. Visited with my friends and it is worth to visit museum and there is no cost for that. Opal is expensive you can buy it cheaper in big cities.

“Noodling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

We stayed at the hotel just across the way which made this experience even better. We watched a short video on the history of mining, followed by a cutting demonstration and then a short tour through a mine/underground home. Fantastic. Great educational tour with the bonus of cooling down on a hot day! The tour finished off in their little gallery that offered an array of choices with all budgets kept in mind. Everyone was so friendly and helpful! Love my opals! So if you are looking to spend 15$ or $50,000 then stop in. The staff will gladly help you in your choice explaining the varieties along the way. And remember if you like it then that's all that matters! And don't forget to stop at the local public noodling site and have a go at finding your own opals! Cheers
