“Nice but noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

5 night package with Blue Holidays. 5th floor mountain view
The staff were great and the location makes it easy to drive in and park for free. The beds were great, the rooms clean , but I do think that housekeeping needs to follow the guidelines of your hotels environ policy. I did hang up the towels but they were replaced everyday and sometimes we had more towels than we started with. In the end I gave up and left them in the bath.
The free tram to the Mall, is an easy walk , and also to be able to catch the tram to Glenelg were plus's. I am glad I bought airplugs as the noise of the balcony doors, sliding, the lift doors opening and closing and the slamming of all the other doors on the 5th floor, was incredibly loud. Surely there must be door catches that can stop the doors slamming? I personally held the door shut so that it didn't bang. Yes the pigeons are a problem and I can understand why there are no chairs on the balconies to sit and look at the view.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the lift doors

Dear LoreneOct08
Thank you for choosing and reviewing your Grand Chifley Adelaide experience. I am pleased you enjoyed your visit.
Housekeeping have been reminded of our towell policy as we are mindful of the environmental impact of laundering. I am pleased to advise our program of replacing the rollers on the balcony doors, along with weather edges to prevent rattling, is being increased to reduce these problems.
Unfortunately, the interior doors slamming is due to the door closer rating which must be abided by under the relevant fire regulation and must ensure the door is fully closed to prevent as much smoke as possible from entering in the event of a fire.
I am also pleased to advise we are currently fitting several balconies with barriers to prevent the pigeons from roosting or nesting in the balcony boxes. If these prove successful, a full program to fit the remainder of the hotel will be carried out.
The views to the Adelaide Hills and Mount Lofty are a delight to take in from the hills facing rooms and allow some great photo opportunities, especially at sunrise.
We look forward to welcoming you back when next you stay.
Kind Regards

2nd visit in a week. Clean and cheap but certainly friendly. Executive rooms are not that, but are comfortable if a bit small. Mini bar only has beer and water - no wine or spirits. Good to have a balcony. Shower over large bath is a bit difficult to get in and out of. Car parking is free :). The restaurant is OK but nothing special. Overall good value through Wotif.

Dear Hoss007
Thankyou for writing a review on your recent stay at Grand Chifley Adelaide. I am pleased you enjoyed your visit.
Your comment regarding the beverage selections for the minibar have been noted for when next we review the contents. We also feel the free parking is a real benefit of staying with us - almost unheard of in most CBD properties.
We look forward to welcoming you back when next you stay.

Recently stayed here for 3 nights. This place was basic but nice enough. The entry foyer was really lovely and all the staff throughout the hotel were really lovely and could not be faulted in any way. The breakfast buffet was lovely too - great choice and fresh food (again with really lovely staff). However - the room was very drab. There was a strange stain on the couch and there was no remote control for the television. The colour scheme made it feel really old and dark. But the bathroom was lovely and new. The main downside to this hotel was the noise. I had requested a "quiet room" as am a very light sleeper, but there are paper thin walls and adjoining (locked) doors to the next room which meant you could here even a normal conversation in the next room through the walls, and their TV late in to the night. And the doors to the balconies sounded like a freight train whenever anyone used them. I was initially excited to have a room with a balcony, which is not common in hotels, however it was covered in pigeon droppings and there was not even a chair to sit on outside (most likely due to the amount of pigeons that live on the balconies). It was a fair price for what it was, but was a little too noisy and dark for my taste.

Dear ilovebarefeet
Thankyou for the review on your recent stay with us.
Your comments have been shared amongst the teams. Your comments regarding the television remote, balconies and staining on the couch have been passed on to Housekeeping to ensure they remain vigilant in maintaining our standards and cleanliness. Maintenance have started replacing the balcony door rollers which will aleviate the associated noise. We are also actively seeking deterent options to control the pigeons from using our hotel as their own.
Your comments and feedback is greatly appreciated and we look forward to welcoming you back when next you stay.
Kind Regards

I recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with work, good quality hotel for a pretty good price. Rooms are clean and tidy, restaurant food was very good, modern reception and free car parking (Get in early as it fills up quick).
The rooms were modern but my only negative was that I had a room next to the lift wall and as its an older hotel it was pretty noisy for a few hours when guests were returning at night so if you are a light sleeper, request a room away from the lifts. Otherwise a good hotel and easy access on the edge of cbd.

Room Tip: Request a room away from lifts.

We had a two bedroom 'unit' which was very clean and roomy enough for a family of 2ads and 2 children. We found the location excellent, close to everything. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Highly recommended for families travelling and the on site parking was very handy.

Dear Fiona W
I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at Grand Chifley Adelaide and thank you for writing a review.
We also feel our location opposite the South parklands and childrens playground, along with the free parking make us a prime location for families. During the hotter months, our swimming pool is another reason so many families choose to stay with us as well!
We look forward to welcoming you back when next you stay.

The staff are nice here, they really are. And that's not said lightly. But I did find most people in Adelaide to be friendly and helpful.

The problem with this place is the building. Its generally noisy due to lifts, lack of double glazing, traffic outside, school next door, thickness of walls between rooms, etc. On the 11th floor there was even what sounded like wind noise from the roof, a first for me. And it needs a refurb. Not unclean but just dull. Boutique it ain't. Its also on the wrong side of the CBD.

Any room service outside a 6pm to 9.30pm window is starchy from a limited menu. And they won't serve wine or beer. Not great.

Its probably cheap compared to the competition, and that's where it probably comes into its own. I feel bad about writing a relatively negative review about this place as the staff were helpful, but I just couldn't get excited about this place. Sorry.

Room Tip: Stay well away from the noisy lift shaft!!

Dear BruceE
Thankyou for the review on your recent stay. Your comments are most welcome and have been shared with our staff.
We completed a refurbishment of the property in 2008 and are currently in the process of completing further works to floors 1-5 as they received only minor treatments at that time, whereas floors 6-11 and the ground floor received complete makeovers. I have asked maintenance to report on the possible noise source from the roof as this has not been bought to our attention previously.
Beer and Wine are available 24 hours a day through our Ezi-Shop menu and staff have been reminded to offer these outside of the general restaurant and bar times.
We also feel our staff are one of our greatest assetts and thank you for also making mention of them.
We look forward to welcoming you back when next you stay.
Kind Regards
