“The old menu went out the window... a long time ago”
I used to go to the Jetty Cafe many years ago, back when their menu was a leather bound and it was several pages long. This was an exciting menu.
These days its encapsulated plastic and one page of cafe food that you'd find in a food hall.
It seems to work, the patrons seem happy and the cafe is full - although this could be through lack of an alternative.
There was a time that I took people here from O/S, because of the menu and view. It was world class. Well, the view is still the same cracker view, but the menu, well.....
As far as our breakfast went, the coffee was OK, the juice came out of a bottle and the bacon and eggs were fine. All of this perfectly acceptable in a food hall environment, but with such a cracking view you'd sort of expect more.
The big let down was the Eggs Benedict. Breakfast staple the world over. Poached eggs on ham with Hollandaise. This menu should have read Hollandaise with poached egg and ham because the plate was swimming in hollandaise. To be fair it was OK hollandaise, but with that much on the plate it was hard to find, let alone taste the eggs and ham, and after a few mouthfuls it just tasted like creamy blah.......
Go for the view. Dont expect to be amazed by the food and definitely ask for your industrial sized sauce on the side.
