“Little things tarnish the experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2011

Little things add up to diminish your positive experience of this hotel. You need your room key to operate the lifts and this is an exercise in skill and patience and is near impossible unless you have both hands free. There is one lift that services the car park but it is the same one that the cleaners use, so you see the lift going past your floor while you are standing there waiting. So much so, that a few times I just walked down the car park ramps and around the side of the building as I got sick of waiting. The layout of the rooms is great and I loved the self contained features but all of the knives were blunt which made prep work for cooking a drag. My quilt on my bed didn't have a proper cover so they were using a clean sheet. Don't get me started on the gym. A primary reason I chose this hotel was for the self-contained component and the 'gym'. The exercise bikes were so old and crap you could have picked them up in a garage sale. The treadmills were awful and again, really old and one of the elliptical machines just didn't work. It was like they sourced the cheapest, most dodgy equipment around and put it in a room to say 'yep, we have a gym'. I went there once and luckily the weather was nice enough I could go for runs by the river for the rest of the time. The location is great, right in the CBD and the view of the river was really lovely. There is no restaurant downstairs, just an aroma cafe but being in the CBD this isn't a biggie. Other than these small things, the hotel is great and I used the washer/dryer without any fuss. Room service are great. Small things just take the shine of what should be but isn't a 5 star experience.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2010

Stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment for 5 nights during December 2010. I chose the Oaks Horizon because a couple of years ago I stayed next door at the Oaks Embassy and was very happy with that. Decided to give their sister property on North Terrace a try to see how it compared.
Contrary to some other recent reviews, I found no flaws with apartment (with the exception of there being no TV signal one evening, but this was fixed the following day). Apartment was comfortable and spacious – much more so than a conventional hotel room. I had family guests over for dinner one evening and all 8 of us could comfortably sit around the lounge/dining area.
The reception staff were courteous and helpful.
At A$107 per night, I think it’s great value for money, especially considering the location. Found this rate at myhotelguru.com. They were about 20% cheaper than Wotif and other sites I tried.
The train station and casino are just across the road, free city tram runs in front of the building, there’s a 24 hour convenience store just up the road and plenty of restaurants and take-away food shops in the vicinity.
My only gripes really were that internet was not free and the bathroom had only a shower – no tub.
I had a standard apartment, not river view. If you plan on using the balcony a bit, it’s probably worthwhile paying the extra to get the nicer view.
Would I stay again? Definitely.
How does it compare to the Oaks Embassy? Much of a muchness.

We stayed at the Oaks Horizons Apartment Hotel and found it to be a lovely apartment, in a good location. We were central to everything we needed. It also had a fantastic pool, spa, and sauna. Would recommend this hotel to people visiting Adelaide.

Stayed in a 1 bedroom apt for 2 nights in November, upon arrival we were told that there was no room in the car park for us for the first night even though we had booked and confirmed a space twice before our arrival! The room was ok, fairly modern and spacious, after a closer look we noticed that the room needed a thorough clean - the walls were dirty and bathroom shows signs of mould and soap scum. Very poor TV reception, not sure if that affects all rooms but it did ours. For the price we got the room at we were reasonably happy but wouldn't have been if we'd paid any more than $119 a night.

The location of these apartments are fantastic. We stayed for 3 nights on the 15th floor. Very central to all the main tourist attractions around Adelaide. If you dont feel like walking to the zoo, botanical gardens (very much worth seeing) there is a free bus that stops out the front as well as one on Currie Street which is only about 3 minutes away walking.

As for the apartments, we had a 2 bedroom apartment and it was very clean. The bedrooms were a good size however we had a 2-way bathroom (thought it had 2 bathrooms when booked) this wasnt a huge deal. The main issues I had were:
1. VERY basic cooking utensils in the kitchen, so far as there was not even a peeler. We made do but compared to other apartments we have stayed at this one lacked in this area.
2. No DVD player, I know this is not a big deal for some people but when you are travelling with young ones it can be very handy as you can put on a dvd before bed or early in the morning when there is nothing suitable on
3. Needs updating, yes it was clean but does need updating

Positives:
Good location
Good room sizes
Pretty quiet especially when deck doors are closed
Pool was good and warm

We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment with single walk-thru bathroom and separate open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area. I loved the feel of the apartment with its tan coloured carpets, brown organza curtains and white walls and linens. It feels very modern. We were on the fifteenth floor and had a lovely view of the city. The gym area, pool, spa , steam room and sauna are all well-maintained. Parking is right next door so it was convenient and safe. North Terrace is a great position to stay as everything is nearby, there isgood transport including the free city circle bus and there are some very good places to eat all around the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel when in Adelaide. I would also recommend Prime Tours for their fantastic Barossa Supreme wineries tour.

Stayed here for two nights in August 2010 - our previous stay was in 2007. Have to say that not much upkeep has been done since our first visit - though our room was clean, it was showing some signs of wear and desperately needed a coat of paint. However, now that is out of the way, we really like this hotel because of the friendly staff, the sizable rooms (separate kitchen/lounge and bedroom, nothing like a poky motel room), and the balcony looking out over the city. Had a ball watching the nightlife on a Saturday night, yet all noise vanished as soon as we closed the balcony door. The casino is just over the road, and the rest of Adelaide is in walking distance. A free city bus and the Glenelg tram stop outside the casino - great for getting around . Room could do with a better TV and a DVD player.
