“Short visit to the city”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Location is accessible to everything like shopping, dining. The room I have stayed with my daughter is located on the 2nd level, clean and serviced everyday as we stayed four nights. ( one thing I have noticed in the room is a spot of mould on the ceiling, room 231), overall we had a great stay. Also, reception clerks are very helpful.

Dear Rosesareinn

Thank you for your Trip Advisor post.

I am glad that you enjoyed your stay and found our team to be friendly. Thank you for your note on the mould. We are installing new bathrooms on the second floor as we speak (due to finish March 2013) and the rest of our Mercure rooms are done.

Warm Regards,

we had 3 rooms here. each with their own downfalls and merits. i took a budget room. this means you have to lug your luggage quite a way to the room. my rooms was also next to some air con venyts which meant a whirling noise all night. i didnt get much sleep. shame really as the rooms, although small are perfect for a quick overnight stop.

Room Tip: dont choose the budget room

Dear Mel W

Thanks for your post.

As you note our budget rooms are located toward the rear of the hotel and offer travellers great low cost accommodation in a great location. I am sorry about the 'whirling noise' and would appreciate if you could send through your room number to gm1@mercuregrosvenorhotel.com.au so I can investigate futher.

My husband and I decided to have a weekend in Adelaide, what a poor choice of hotel. Our room was clean but small and dark, air conditioner was noisy, bathroom had no exhaust fan. This was our first holiday without kids and we were looking forward to a sleep in so it was a shock to be woken saturday morning at 7:05am to the sound of builders banging on walls, this went on for 1 hour. Staff when informed seemed indifferent. The next night we were kept awake by wedding reception in the function room on the level below and noisy wedding guests retuning to their rooms at 1:00am. To cap it off on our last day one of the lifts broke down at check out time. The location is great and the breakfast was good but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Dear Camilla W

Thank you for your post and I am sorry that your trip away without the kids didn't reach your expectations.

We are currently upgrading our bathrooms and lighting in the hotel which was the noise you heard. This will be complete by March 2013. We run about 20 weddings a year and on occasion lifts breakdown. I am sorry that you experienced both during your stay.

If you travelling again please feel free to contact me directly and I will ensure that you are looked after.

This is not great hotel. The curtains in my room would not close properly. The room was just adequate and is showing its age. The bar was closed without warning at 10 pm by a rather humourless young lady. Earlier we had used a room for a meeting, which really was not fit for purpose. It had no screen for a slide projection among other issues. We had to hire a screen for 2 hours and were charged AUD 200 for the privilege, even though we had already paid for food and wine for all our guests. Breakfast the following morning was poor and expensive.

The Mercure Grosvenor is a great location. Staff at reception very good. Room was not large and the step up into the bathroom was a bit of a trap until you got used to it. Bathroom a bit cramped but clean and tidy. If you are looking for a good central location for a reasonable price this will do you. Hotels in Australia are very pricey I feel so have taken it as reasonable when compared to some other cities costs.

Dear Murray P

Thank you for taking the time to post a balanced assessment on Trip Advisor.

As you note we have a great team and location. There is a step up to our bathrooms which is the result of our 90 year old building, all rooms didn't have bathrooms when it was built!

I look forward to welcoming you back to Adelaide in the near future.

The Grosvenor is obviously an older Hotel and you make allowances for that. Our only criticism was that the airconditioning wasn't really up to the task of cooling the Hotel when it was 45oC outside. The restaurant had portable fans set up throughout the room to help ease the discomfort which we were grateful for but the night in the room was just a little too warm for comfort with the airconditioning set to maximum. Other than that we were very happy on all other counts. We were upgraded into one of the refurbished rooms and we were very complimentary of the job you have done.

Dear Gungurru2

Thank you for your post and your positive words on Trip Advisor.

I am sorry that our AC didn't quite cope with the recent run of extreme hot weather here in Adelaide. As you note we tried to take steps to improve the situation.

I hope that you'll visit again when the weather is a little friendlier.

Sadly we had to book last minute due to business we had to attend to, when looking for a hotel last minute, my partner suggested another hotel at a cheaper rate, i said nooo let's go somewhere nicer, so this hotel came up, what attracted us was the parking, and 24 hr as we had to 4.5 hours into Adelaide after getting in at 1am (which we had called prior and advised) we went to look for a car park at the hotel, not only was it hard enough to get into and drive around there were no spots!! None! Then we had to try and get out of there and go to the 24hr car park drive up to 5th floor and come all the way back down. We mentioned to reception about the car park, he apologised but made no attempt to really do much about it, then we finally get to our room, lucky we booked a standard! Because I'd hate to see what the econmay rooms looks like! The standard was small enough! Was nice enough but lives up to its name " standard" after a last minute 4.5hr stressful drive getting in at 1am and finally being able to get to bed at 2am I'm woken at 6.30am, by workmen and banging on the bathroom wall!!! It's now 7.30am writing this review and it's getting louder!!! It would of been nice if we were offered at later check out considering we didn't get in until 1am and we called to advise them of that, and it would of been nice to for you to pay for our parking since we didnt get to park in hotel parking, and surely the workmen can work next to rooms that don't have people staying in them!! Dreading 9.30am when our breakfast arrives..... Somehow I have no high hopes on that either!!!

Dear Fayjason

Thank you for your TA post.

I am sorry that you weren't able to park directly under the hotel, given the age of the building and the fact that we have 245 guest rooms for 90 parks this is often the case. We have a deal with a carpark 50 metres from our main entrance to try and improve the situation.

We are currently under refurbishment and the noise travels. Please accept my apology and I hope that you'll return to experience our new rooms.
