“Quite OK, except for the broadband”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2010

The standard is what it claims to be, four stars. The Apartments are located in a pleasant area in North Adelaide, just across the river from Adelaide Zoo. The nearby Melbourne Street is quite attractive with its small shops and restaurants. Even a quite nice, although too modern, bar can be found on Melbourne Street. Pubs of the English type are generally hard to come by in Adelaide (and I thought Aussies like beer!).

On the down side is the hotel’s expensive broadband connection. The basic fee of AUD 27.50 per day is valid only up to 50 MB, after which an extra 10 cents per MB is added. I used Skype to stay in touch with my family and the image transfer quickly absorbed the 50 MB. It’s expensive, you know! In addition, my computer complained that the Internet connection is bad (noticeable in the jerky image). Poor service at high prices—not good.

We booked a 2 bedroom apartment with Queen and King beds. We found 2 singles and a queen. Burners on the stove top were treated with a black treatment to hide the rust however some burners were not working, therefore the housekeeping staff were unable to burn off the residual treatment. Needless to say, if you touched the burners, you were covered in a substance similiar to shoe polish.

The room was dated and unclean. We spoke to reception about the beds (I am an Australian Citizen with a Canadian accent, the man at reception tried to convince me that the queen size bed was in fact a king size bed in Australia) and were provided with a free dvd player and 1 free movie however the tv was too old to accomodate the dvd player, hence a pointless gesture. To their credit we were offered 2 free breakfasts of cereal, juice, milk, wet bread and condiments.

I would highly advise seeking other accommodation in Adelaide.

I stayed for a week on Business. Lots of room, Windows that open, Free parkling, Laundry in room. No lifts though, so need to walk upstairs with your bags.

We stayed at the Tynte St Apartments for a week and were really impressed, clean bathroom and comfortable bed. We had a problem with the personal safe and within minutes of our call someone was there to help. This was our first time in Adelaide, the location was second to none and had secure parking. Transport ran past the end of the road, but the apartment was quiet. We would recommend you request a downstairs unit if you are not able to climb stairs, no lift. Eating out became a problem, as there was too much choice. Adelaide city was a 25 minute stroll through parks and over the river, very enjoyable. We had a hire car and were able to visit the countyside around Adelaide. Finding our way around was simple, even without SAT NAV.

I stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with 3 other women and we had four friends staying in the identical apartment across the hall. We spent our time there in the one unit (except for sleeping and dressing) and found it to be roomy enough. One 2 seater and one 3 seater plus used 3 dining chairs. We didn't cook at all so didn't notice any problems with the kitchen. Our shower was warm and the water flow OK. Bed firm and comfortable and adequate space for clothes. Bathroom clean and plenty of thick white towels as well as facewashers , which we often don't get at hotels now. Our apartment was fine noisewise but the other apartment which faced the street was a bit noisy as patrons left the hotel/ nightclub next door. But only talking noise, no fighting etc. We arrived at 11.15 am on the Friday and both apartments were ready so we were able to unpack our cases and get settled before going out for the remainder of the day. One of our party lost her return flight ticket and she was returniung earlier than the rest of us. so she had no idea what flight she was on as the airlines had phoned to alter flight times. The reception staff were very helpful in contacting the airlines, booking her seat and relieving her stress. Also we checked out at 8.30 on Sunday morning and wanted to spend the morning walking around the city. The reception staff made arrangements for us to leave our luggage at the Majestic hotel in the city (free of charge) so that we did not have to tug that around with us or return to North Adelaide to collect it.

Old Lion Apartments are reasonably new. Because we had an emergency trip to Adelaide during the Clipsal 500 car race, it meant we could only get continuous accommodation by changing rooms halfway through our stay. We had a studio & then a 2 bedroom apartment. Both had newish carpets & furnishings and both were clean and had a full kitchen. The plus with the studio apartment was a dedicated shower whereas the 2 bedroom apartment had the shower over the bath. Hanging space in studio apartment was limited. A plus was the high security underground car park. If guests don't have a car they can have ground level accommodation with no stairs. However, if guests have a car they must walk up steps to get to the ground level - or higher level apartments. No lifts. Our studio apartment at the back of the Apartments was totally quiet. Accommodation in North Adelaide means it's under the Adelaide Airport flight path (curfew until 6.30am). The plus of the Apartments is that there are lots of restaurants a few steps away.

friends and i stayed in a three bedroom apartment on friday night and we booked a late checkout for sat as we where getting ready for a wedding, the location of these apartments where great but everything else was pretty poor:

1. when the bride arrived she had called at 11.30am and asked when the room would be ready and was told it would be ready at 1pm, so in she goes at 1.15 only to be told by the manager that the room wont be ready until 2pm and to wait, she then asked if she could store her wedding dress somewhere instead of leaving it in the car and was rudly told that " no you cant leave it here, did you not listen on the phone" little did the management know there where two brides staying and they had spoken to the other one, so our bride was quiet upset with her treatment, the day before she gets married!!!!

2. the rooms where very old and dated and small, for a place that can sleep 6 people at a time the space was not very big, bed's where lumpy and upon getting a towel from the cupboard under the bathroom sink we found flying bugs all over the towels, about 20 bugs on each towel!!!!

3. we moved the couch out of the way while we where getting ready on sat morning to find all dirt and dust and rubbish on the floor!!!!

overall it was a pretty poor stay and for the $350 we paid for the night we could have gone elsewhere.
