“CLEAN, COMFORTABLE, EXCELLENT LOCATION”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2011

Perfect for our stay over the christmas new year break. Good deal through wotif included room and breaky for 2 being our reason for choosing this hotel. Rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable, though sparce with decorations/colors. Very Bland but that doesn't really matter. Breakfast was a large buffet with plenty to choose from. Lifts are a bit slow but there are three of them. Roof top pool was nice and a good view of the city. Tram, Railway and Buses at front door. Mall just around the corner. A bit of a walk through the mall to the Eastern end where alot of restaurants are 10-15 mins. Alternatively catch the free tram to Victoria Square and get off and walk down a block to another restaurant strip. Great meals here. Lots of people around. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurants so can't comment on them. Pub and another hotel down the road for meals also. Casino with restaurant also across the road. Check in was smooth and fast. Minor fault. credit card debit day after we had checked out - mini bar usage - but was corrected immediately upon contact. Would defiantely stay here again.

I stay here regularly (not my choice) and have posted previously on this hotel. I have just read recent comments and have to agree, nothing has changed. The situation with the lifts has been an on going saga for more than 12 months and I am yet to see one that has been updated. It is becoming normal to wait 5 or more minutes for an elevator. I can agree again with the standard of the rooms. Although I have had the privelage of an "up dated" room which was much better than the old, they are dusty and it appears that houskeeping do the absolute minimum for quick turn over. This is a 5 star hotel according to various websites. Stamford need to assess their services and accommodation. It is not 5 star. Five star is International Standard. Just because they are a big hotel with a chain name they can claim 5 star status. Management need to travel and see what 5 star really means and what they are competing with. At a 5 star hotel we shouldn't have thin towels, 1 robe for 2 people, awkward closets, cork boards on the wall promoting discount laundry, $6 service charge for room service, minimal tv service, awful toiletry products, queuing for lifts. Unfortunately this is not just the Adelaide Stamfords situation, Sydney Airport Stamford is just the same.

I was the Tour Manager of a group of 35 visitng Adelaide for the 2nd Ashes Test. The Stamford Plaza is ideally situated for the short and pleasant walk to the Adelaide Oval - and also for the Rundle Mall and the other shops which captivated many of my clients!
There were a few problems with the lifts during our stay - in part casued by the replacement programme - and I know that Graham Black (Area General Manager) was as frustrated as we were. Typically, the earnest attempts of the technicians 'oaid off'' on the day of our departure!
The hotel is very comfortable, and will undoubtedly benefit from the extensive refurbishment programme that is about to begin in the Reception and accommodation areas - and I'm looking forward to seeing the results during our next Ashes visit!
Graham and his ever-attendant staff made our stay very enjoyable as we also held 2 major functions there - and the Test Match result helped as well!

We bought a Mystery Deal from Wotif.com.au and this was the hotel. We only paid $115 for 1 night and buffet breakfast (great value)

Our stay was very pleasant and relaxing for my partner and I after a stressful week of work.

Postives
- Room Service was scrumptious
- Buffet breakfast scrumptious (love the pancake maker, a must try!)
- Spa was very relaxing
- Room was very quiet and dark for a sleep in

Negatives
- In room movies where very expense (prob standard for a hotel tho!)
- Not many foxtel channels avalible
- Pool area should take advantage of the rooftop position as the view could be
spectacular

Def worth a look for your next visit to Adelaide.

I have stayed in this hotel several times over the past few years. Can't beat the location or the service. It is Adelaide Central, right on North Tce. and just a short hop to most Government and business offices as well as the mall, Nth Adelaide and Hutt St. cafes, the Festival Centre and cinemas. Basically I can do all my business from there and it's an easy walk for shopping cafes and entertainment. Staff are friendly and go out of their way to be helpful, even when the hotel is full which it is often on weekends. The concierge has good tips for restaurants and will often go the extra mile when you have a problem. In short, I have never had an issue with the service in this hotel. Negatives: The interior is dated and could use some refurbishment but the rooms are spacious enough with new wide screen tvs and there are some great views of the river and city from upper floors. Deluxe rooms have been refurbished recently. Best of all you don't hear traffic noise at night thanks to the double glazing. All in all I'd say excellent value for money.

Thank you for reviewing our hotel. We appreciate your comments and look forward to welcoming you back.

The Hotel is indeed in an excellent location, close to both business and leisure amenities. We are proud of our caring, helpful staff and we look forward to welcoming you back .

The LCD TV you mention is a new addition to the Hotel and within one week all rooms will have these new TVs. We are also modernising our guest lifts, replacing carpet on staircases,, mezzanine and conference levels and now planning the next refurbishment of the lower floor rooms.

The quiet rooms are due to the double glazing we have on the North Terrace facing side of the building for this very purpose.

Again, thank you and we look forward to welcoming you back.

The hotel is very outdated, would only rate it at 3.5. The add for the hotel advises us that it has luxurious rooms.....not sure where they were! the room although roomy, was outdated, lots of beige & brown, not even a flat screen tv! The bed was small, pillows very soft, only 1 robe and pair of slippers in the wardrobe, not sure how 2 people fit into 1 robe!!!! the bathroom needed completely overhauling. the grouting was old and dirty, the bath had enamel worn away and leaving black spots. towels & bathmat thin and small. On arrival no one to take suitcase from car to reception, the person who booked us in was hopeless, even proceeded to tell us how much the package we were given as a gift cost.......he was holding the gift certificate in is hand as he told us the price...I don't know what part of gift he didn't understand!!
Then there were the lifts only 1 worked...and that was extremely slow
Breakfast was okay, warm at best. The only hot food we had was the freshly made pancakes from a machine.
would not recommend this hotel to anyone

Thank you for reviewing our Hotel. We are delighted to receive your comments and feedback as it gives us the opportunity to review our service deliver and product standards.

We accept the flat screen TVs are the older style and as such have been replacing all with latest model LCD TVs in order to modernise the rooms. This is well in process and should be completed within the next week.

The guest lifts are also being modernised. We are spending approximately $1M AUD on the mechanical and aesthetic upgrade and the first of the three lifts has been released into full operation this week.

Although there is only one bathrobe in the rooms there should have been a card over the robe offering to deliver additional robes if required. I will organise an audit of all rooms to ensure they are in place.

The breakfast buffet set up will also receive an upgrade with the replacement of the current chaffing dishes with an induction system, which will not only present much better, it will also ensure consistent hot service of the breakfast items.

Thank you again for your comments. We request that you come and try us again early next year to see how much we have improved.

Kind regards
Graham Black

We choose to stay at the Stamford Plaza as we were attending a dinner function in the city and live in the country. Unfortunately the experience was such that I would rather have planed on travelling home then staying.
The first bad sign was in the foyer when there was a queue for the lifts (apparently only one lift was operational and the hotel was fully booked). After waiting half an hour for the lift got to the room which was clean and tidy but looking tired and dated.
Wanting to get prepared for the evening out discovered that iron was missing, but this didn't really matter at that time because my luggage hadn't been delivered to the room yet. After several calls to the concierge where they promised to deliver my luggage it was finally delivered two and a half hours after my check-in and only then because my wife arrived at the hotel and noticed the luggage still waiting at the concierge desk.
Due to the delays in getting the luggage delivered to the room I had to request the arranged babysitter to come back later (though obviously had to pay them from the originally requested time). This also meant I and my wife were late for the function missing out on two courses.
The package we had booked was meant to include a complimentrary bottle of sparkling wine on arrival and some drink vouchers. These were not in the room on arrival and were delivered to the room when we were due to be at our function.
The air conditioning was not very effective in the room leading to a sleepless night on return from the function.
Other minor issues included: only one bathrobe in the room; room service delivery while on time was not presented properly (due to a porter being used rather than normal food service staff); chipped tiles in the bathroom; exhaust system in bathroom not working properly.
Overall I have never had quite such a negative experience in a Hotel. I travel quite frequently with work and have stayed in plenty of different Hotels and for the money I expect a higher standard.

Thank you for taking the time to review our Hotel. We appreciate you comments.

We are spending approx $1M AUD in modernising both the mechanical and aesthetic presentation of our lifts. Unfortunatelty, during this process the lift company conducting the work had some issues with both the new lift and the lift cars not yet modernised. This has now been resolved with the first of the three guest lifts released into full operation this week.

The lift issue also impacted the usual excellent service standard offered by our concierge team causing your luggage to be late.

I would appreciate if you could contact me so we can discuss your stay so that I could find a way to regain your faith in our Hotel. We are indeed an excellent choice for a nights stay when attending a function in the city, the Convention Center or the Casino.

Kind regards
Graham Black
