4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We visit Adelaide several times a year for work and have stayed in most of the highly rated hotels around town. The Sebel is our preferred because of its location and characterful service. Marco the concierge, and all his charming team, welcomes guests with a unique exuberance and from then service is equally efficient and friendly throughout the hotel from check in to restaurant and housekeeping. It always feels like the staff are having a grand old time and want you to too.
The rooms are fairly standard hotel issue, without many frills or pillow menus but they are comfortable, quiet and clean. Breakfast is very good and the buffet is comprehensive, fresh and replenished often (I loathe buffets but this is better than most). Eggs etc are cooked to order. Coffee is not so good.
The location is in mid North Terrace so the business areas are within walking distance, as is the shopping mall. The "red light district" (pretty tame - more of an amber really) is around the corner, and so is the lovely Leigh Street - a delightful pedestrian mall full of interesting places to eat and drink (Coffee Branch is highly recommended for all your hipster coffee needs and Udaberri for tapas and wine). The convention centre is across the road as is the railway station if you need it.
All in all a top place to stay.

Well she is a Grand Dame hotel. I like the very modern ones myself but just loved all the overdone grandness of it all, and in the middle of everything but very quiet. A top place to stay. Staff fantastic, nothing too much trouble. Well done. Will be back. I did take photos by the way and at no time was I asked not to.

Second time I have stayed here. Previously for business but this was a combination of business and pleasure.

Unfortunately, we only stayed for one night.

Check in is excellent with the desk more than willing to help out with any requests we had. Whoever was on the concierge desk also provided excellent service. This is definitely a stand out area for them.

Reason for providing an update to my prior review is that previously it was annoying that I would not get the benefit of my “Le Club” membership as the Playford did not participate in the scheme. However, on check in we were advised that the hotel is literally in the process of going through the training to be included in the Accor group benefit programme. In the past I had stayed at other hotels in Adelaide but with the additional benefits I will definitely be back...

I enjoyed the fact that the Playford has foregone the international bland minimalist decor in favour of something a bit more textured and opulent. Very comfortable with everything you'd expect from a good 5-star hotel, including an iPod dock.
The breakfast buffet was outstanding, with creative and delicious dishes on offer.
The gym was good although only 2 treadmills so I imagine you could dip out in peak times.
All the staff were very good and personable, and the location was perfect for me, as I needed to be at the Convention Centre across the road. For shopping/dining, it is close to the rather foul Hindley St and a bit of a hike to Rundle St.
All in all, a very enjoyable stay and I would certainly stay again.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Location is excellent - about 5 mins walk to Rundle Mall. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, and quite large. Comfortable bed. Very quiet at night. Fitness centre was well equipped.

Highlight of our stay was the buffet breakfast - an great array of high quality foods. Much much better than the usual bain-marie breakfasts you find in other hotels. Try the freshly made waffles. Wait staff were attentive.

The only (small) suggestion I have - we borrowed a couple of umbrellas from concierge, and they were small, tatty and old. Some full-sized Sebel branded umbrellas would make a better impression.

Highly recommended.

The beds are super comfy, staff friendly, rooms and hotel very clean, breakfast is yummy (my partner and I ordered a full breakfast for one room service and it was enough for us to share).
Location is excellent, Tram stop very close for easy access to entertainment centre or glenelg, train station across the road, casino across the road, Adelaide oval a easy stroll away, Adelaide Festival centre closeby. Walking distance to Rundle Mall (main city shopping precinct), easy walk to museums, art gallery, botanical gardens.

The staff were extremely helpful, the room was spacious and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in other than my own at home.
Room service staff were very accommodating, giving me time to finish my dinner then returning to my room with the amazing deconstucted banana split dessert - WOW.
Breakfast buffet was perfect, especially the freshly squeezed juices.
The location is ideal for whatever you want to do in Adelaide.
