I am going to buck the trend here guys, but hear me out.
I ended up here because the city hotels I normally stay at were booked out because of the police games.
I agree that the hotel is in a great location all be it the sleazy part of Hindley Street.
If you are new to Adelaide and do not feel comfortable in a strip bar location, maybe you consider another part of the city, the hotel sits one door from an adult book and novelty shop and three doors from on of many strip joints. I have to say though it does not concern me but its worth mentioning. The hotel is a well maintained “oldish” facility that although very clean, does need a refurbishment. I am not saying the fixtures and fitting are damaged but they do show wear and the beds (double not queen) are very tired.
This brings me to my gripes, the front desk staff in as far as my most recent stay (4 nights) were stiff and cold, unable to have a smile, the same for the four days I was there. However, this very much contrasts the professionalism on the concierge desk and front bar staff who were fantastic.
Another negative about the facility is the unwillingness to eliminate smoking which is still available in drinking areas in South Australia. They change the laws in October 2007 to come in line with other states.
If you dislike inhaling a pack of smokes as you talk with friends over a wine there are a number of hotels in Adelaide that are already completely smoke free and have been for some time. Other things, the buffet hot breakfast was very average and I think the facility is becoming overpriced as it ages. There are much better deals that exist for domestic business travellers within the city. I believe you are overcharged for what you get and the hotel will exploit there location (uping rates) if an expo is running given the proximity to North Terrace. If you’re from overseas and or in a group, I am sure it would be an appealing price structure. Finally the restaurant has a limited menu and for Adelaide a very average wine list. Try North Adelaide for that, about 10 minutes by Cab.
