“Great country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

The country scenery changes all the time and the ranges themselves are stunning. As good as anywhere in Australia, I feel, and I have seen a lot of the interior. We visited several sites and enjoyed them all. Especially good in winter as it is greener and prettier for photos.

“Outback experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

There are some fantastic B&Bs in this area that offer old world ambience as well as lovely home cooked meals with characters and commentary. Some beautiful walks ranging from quite short to several kilometers as well as tiny villages to stroll through and check out the local wares. Sp[ring and Autumn offer the best weather.

Everything to like about this place. Magnificent untouched scenery, secluded campsites with everything around at peace with the world.

“Don't just drive past, stop a while.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

There are so many activities offering in the Southern Flinders, so it is well worth basing yourself at one of the little towns, such as Melrose, Quorn or Peterborough entering the Flinders Ranges National Park area. Basing yourself at Melrose, which has a range of accomodation, some with distinctive character, you can explore the Mt Remarkable National Park which means walking Mt Remarkable itself or doing a daytrip in nearby Alligator Gorge, where you will walk deep down into a gorge through red rock canyon like gorges. This is a suitable walk for children and adults alike. If based in Quorn, again there is a range of interesting accomodation, the Pichi Richi Railway runs during during school holidays and is a must for steam train buffs. There is also an interesting public garden with plants and trees from the arid zone. Peterborough, to the NE was once a town where rail was king and this heritage is preserved. Then there are the port towns of Port Pirie, Port germain and others which offer fishing and other coastal attractions. There are many other little towns and localities in this area which are well worth visiting. This whole area offeres a snap shot particularly of early Europeon farming settlement, with it's successes and stories of hardship along with it's remote location. Visit the following website for much more detail on the area.

We had a family holiday here in April 2011 and had a fantastic time with perfect weather. Great walking trails, excellent kids club, good restaurants, we'll be back!
