“never stayed due to the noisy cement trucks up & down the beach”

Peppers Palm Bay

Apr 21, 2008

This resort was chosen after checking out all brochures, reviews, etc. for a most idyllic two day break after all the sightseeing and travelling we had previously done in Australia. We wanted a complete rest.
On arrival from Shute Harbour, at the beach on the Island on the Island's own very, very noisy and tatty but supposedly 'luxury' launch, we pulled up alongside a barge which over the next hour saw four cement mixers loaded on board. This is not what we were expecting or had even envisaged. The cement mixers had trundled up and down the beach churning it up and beforehand could be heard working away.
The pool looked beautiful as did the restaurant and the accommodation but we never had the opportunity to experience their use.
Sadly, we were - after a long hour or so negotiation - refunded fully and transported to an alternative location.
We were devastated as this short trip had been planned for a long while and we were really looking forward to the promised serenity in the brochure after such a hectic previous four weeks.
We have since read more reviews and guess we were very unlucky to arrive at the time of the building work but we received no warning beforehand that this may have been taking place.
We strongly feel that a small resort such as Peppers should completely close down so that no guests have to experience the disruption when they have clearly chosen to go there for the peace and quiet. The ambience pf the resort and the only small beach was completely ruined. A small luxury resort such as Peppers - 21 rooms - should have been closed whilst any work was going on which involved heavy machinery and work barges.
In addition, our email to Peppers on our return to the UK at the end of March has not even been acknowledged. We are really disappointed in this.
We are sure that once the building work has been completed that the attraction and exclusivity of the resort will return and once again it will prove to be an idyllic escape and sort of accept that we may have been very unlucky to have arrived at the time we did.
We sincerely recommend that any prospective visitors check out the state of the building work before they book and even just before they are due to go.

If you want to get away from it all and totally relax, this is the Island for you.

Please read on for the positives and the negatives.

With no televisions, or radios and having just the beautiful blue water interupting your view to other islands while you sit on the lounge on the beach or from your hammock swing slowly on the balcony, how could you not relax.

The food was fantastic with equally fantastic staff to serve it. I recommend that you purchase your meals as a package. We didn't need lunch as we had a late full breakfast with an early dinner.

We came across a variety of wildlife on our walks - a snake slithered by as well as a goanna, bush turkeys, cookatoos, wallabies, eagles, curlews (in the restaurant), turtles, magnaficant displays of fungi, rosellas, and frogs in the toilet!

It was a shame that the walking track to the other resort was closed due to the bush pigs - however, people who could run fast did take the risk!

There were a couple of down sides to the resort. One was that the yachties do stop there and use the facilities (this was also mentioned in other reviews). It was particulary disturbing one night when four very boisterous men ate in the restaurant getting louder as they got drunker. The manager sat with them and seemed to not acknowledge that they were disturbing those around them.

Also, there was a lot of building going on on the Island. Very noisy ferries transported cement trucks and other equipment to the island from the main land. These ferries had to dock right outside the accommodation. This happened on average every second day. I know that some people moved accommodation. We were offered a trip into town - but we came to the island for the lifestyle - not to be around shops etc.

All of the staff were wonderful and accommodating of our needs, except the manager could have been more friendly towards older holidaymakers - I found the unfrieldliness disturbing. She didn't acknowledge us once by an ounce of friendliness (and we are friendly people) or other older people and totally focused on the honeymooners, encouraging them to spend on tours etc. Older people have friends too who are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday.

Overall, a great holiday destination. Just make sure the building has been completed and that the problem with the yachties has been addressed.

“The perfect relaxing/romantic getaway”

Peppers Palm Bay

Jan 3, 2008

I had an absolutely wonderful time here. The endota spa was lovely, and the service was excellent. All the staff were so friendly, and always available whenever you needed them. The rooms were so clean and perfectly arranged. I have already recommended this place to all my friends - I'm hoping one of them uses it as a place to get married so I have an excuse to go back!

Great little resort, only tiny but this is perfect..We just booked as a couple for a last minute break and paid $300 per night for bed / breakfast deal. Spent a fortune on food & drink though each day (between $400-$500 between 2) but we do drink a lot.. The only down side was that the main restaurant area was incredibly hot and they hardly ever had any fans on (although they made little difference.) The staff were prettty good, with a few great ones, mainly behind the bar, very friendly. We were given some hand reels all with bait and headed onto the beach for a sunset fish and caught my first trevally! Lovely accomodation, we stayed in number 5, right on the beach. Resort was pretty empty when we were there the week before Xmas.

    • Liked — Very small resort, felt very private
    • Disliked — Only 1 restaurant and the lunch menu was pretty poor & defintely overpriced (over $25 for a steak sandwich which had a steak the size of a slice of tomato & 5 chips).

After a stressful 12 months we needed a break away from our everyday lifestyle. Peppers Long Island was offering us
no phones, no mobiles, no television, NO kids etc. We felt this would be a perfect place to relax for six nights. We got more than we paid for with excellent accomadation, food, service and no stress..... except when ordering our food which was out of this world. Never have we been in the Whitsundays and been able to swim in the waters with nothing but the sounds of the birdlife and the sea waves. We stayed in a bure on the beachfront and every morning waking up to a stunning sunrise and evening watching the sun set. We have done a lot of travelling and this was the best relaxing and totally recharging holiday we have ever had.
