I had high expectations for the hotel and was looking forward to getting there enormously.
Unusually for me, Qualia exceeded all my expectations.

From the moment you land at Hamilton Island airport, "don't worry about collecting your baggage, they will be taken to your room", to being dropped back off the service was absolutely top notch.
This is matched by the beauty of the resort and the standard of the accomodation. Huge, huge rooms with floor to ceiling glass allowing you perfect views of neighbouring islands.
The bed was too comfortable to be true.
The only small criticism is that the bedroom tended to warm up a little at 3 a.m....

The spa is excellent and the hot stone massage I had was as good as I have had anywhere in the world, if not better.

All that leaves is the food.
Michelin stars cannot be far away - phenomenal food from creative menus produced every night, with a menu degustation produced on alternate nights. Take the optional wine matching from the passionate and knowledgeable sommeliers.

This is not a child friendly resort, but if I lived in Sydney I would be here as many weekends as I could.

This brand new, super-luxury resort was recommended by an Aussie friend and it does not disappoint. Upon arrival at Hamilton Island Airport, we were met at the airport and swifted away to the resort while the staff claimed our luggage. After a welcome cocktail at the beautiful Long Pavillion, we were taken to our private pavillion, where our luggage was waiting for us- along with a spectacular view and every amenity you can imagine. They think of everything here (and I'm not talking about the fact that each pavillion comes with its own electric golf cart for getting around the resort and the small island). I'm talking about the fact that the staff comes by each night and plugs the golf cart in for its nightly charge. I'm talking about when it rains (which it does a lot in the "summer") someone comes by and rolls down the plastic curtains that keep your golf cart (and you inside) dry. I'm talking about when you park your cart head-in at the restaurant parking area and you find it turned around and ready to roll when you return from dinner.
Speaking of food and the fact that 3 gourmet meals are included, since Qualia is owned by the owner of the entire Hamilton Island, you can choose to eat at one of the restaurants on the island instead of the resort itself. You only pay for alcohol.
Facilities are fantastic, amenities are awesome, food is fabulous, spa is sumptuous. Pricey, to be sure, but if you're interested in luxury, this is it!
One note: this has been the worst summer in terms of weather in Australia that most can remember, so make sure you check before booking (we have been advised that September-December are the best months). Next time!

No detail has been spared at this luxury resort. The entrance is inmpressive, you notice the view as soon as you enter. Each couple stay in their own pavilion and have a golf buggy to get around in. The pavilions themselves all have amazing views and in the windward section all have plunge pools, covered patios with daybeds, reverse cycle daikin aircon, designer bath tubs, bose multizone sound system, wifi, Sony Bravia LCD, some have outdoor showers (we stayed in 2 different pavilions during our stay – one that was open plan and one more trad layout with doors separating bathroom, bedroom and living area) and that is just the facilities. The products within the pavilion go another level as well; Aesop bath accessories, riedel glassware, G Jensen silverware, tea drop teas, Antipodean water and there is even foie gras in the barfridge.

The service is friendly, informative and accommodating without being intrusive or slow. There are currently 2 restaurants, gymnasium (equipped with water bottles, individual bathrooms and of course, a view). Everything in this resort has a view overlooking the Whitsundays. We came during rainy season (Feb) and it was overcast but still very beautiful and warm enough to do water sports and use the plunge pool. The food is really good, if you go with the lunch specials you will not be disappointed, if this chef is allowed to be more creative with the menu I think it will become amazing.

Hamilton island has its appeal as well – 2 hrs from Syd, a boat or flight away from the great barrier reef, a hop to Whitehaven beach – what more could you ask for? If you are staying at Qualia….nothing!

As we came to Australia from Italy and it was our first time in Great Barrier Reef we wanted to try Qualia as well as Hayman resort. So we stayed in Qualia for 3 days in the end of December and then went to Hayman. What a dissapointment! We were so depressed in the very dated Hayman that after spending just one night there we returned to Qualia and had a fantastic holiday!

Very relaxing and private place with excellent food, attentive staff and beautifull rooms in pavillions!!!

We enjoyed every minute of our time in Qualia, however the massages in the spa could have been a bit more professional...but if you are looking for a relaxing massage with no pressure you would probably enjoy also those...

Even if it seems a bit pricey, all the meals are included in the price and they are very high quality so in the end it is much better value then Hayman!

My wife and I moved to the resort after being disappointed by our original choice of Hayman Island - we couldn't have been more delighted with the change!

We stayed in a stylishly appointed Windward pavilion, which had a dramatic view out to sea (especially when the sun was setting over the neighbouring islands).

The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and were only to happy to make your stay a memorable one. For instance, one afternoon we spotted dolphins in the bay, and seeing that we watching the them were approached by the activities team if we wanted to be taken out in one of the boats to get a closer look.

We could continue the superlatives about the resort, but I think the most apt comment is that Qualia is fully deserving of its reputation as Austrailia's hottest new resort (one we believe it will hold for many years to come!).

  • Liked — The sheer luxury and the gold buggies!
  • Disliked — That we couldn't have stayed longer
