“Well worth a stay here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We stayed here last week at the Audi Race week. The island was really buzzing and we had more fun and relaxation than we expected. The hotel was very well situated on Catseye beach.

From arriving at the airport our bags were taken from us and loaded into the shuttle. Upon arriving at the hotel we were told not to worry about our bags they would make sure they were delivered to our room, which they were. It made things very easy.

The room are appointed well but not extravagantly. It was enough for us. Am amazing view to look out to every part of the day. We kept on taking photos of the same view through the 6 days because it was so amazing. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. Because most of the resorts are owned by the Oatley family the staff were more than happy to offer information and suggestions of the other resorts.

There were shuttle buses available just at the door every 10 minutes to take you around the island free, so you are very well looked after. Our accommodation included breakfast which we could have here or at Sails restaurant down by the beach and pool. The other great thing was they gave you your key on a lanyard and you could use your key at many places to charge back meals and drinks to you room. The food however at most places was just OK nothing to rave about unfortunately.

And close the balcony door when you go out. The birds came in and stole us nuts and snacks.

Flying directly in from Sydney was also a bonus rather tahn having to transfer.

However we had a wonderful time and will certainly be going back.

Room Tip: Close the balcony door to stop the birds coming in when you go out. Book another few days than y...

yes no real complaints from me, I was with family and would agree the views are awesome. we had the BIGGEST balcony accessible from both bedrooms and lounge. breakfast was included and until I got a touch of sunstroke loved the buffet breakfast each day!!!!!! we did have a faulty fridge in our room that should have been fixed before they gave us our keys, BUT it was not. There was also a powder room in the apartment, very handy. My family I was with took me along for being a very good auntie for many years. We were on the 17th floor.

We were up graded from the Bungalows to the hotel, our room was amazing we had view of the sea and the bed was in the middle of the room so you could view the sea from your bed!

The place was very clean, the facilities were good we used the tennis courts but a gym was available too, the pool was pretty nice as well.

The staff were friendly and there was a place in the reception where you could book up anything you wanted to do, we went out on a catamaran for the day and snorkeled on the outer reef, and visited Chalkies Beach, pure white sand - amazing

An early check-in was accommodated, which was very much appreciated. We had checked out of our previous condo and stayed at the Reef View hotel for one night.

The room was large and comfortable but in need of updating. Comfortable beds and linens. We were celebrating a late birthday for my daughter, and a card and chocolates from the Manager were a nice touch. We paid for garden view but had a lovely water view (from the 3rd floor - nice surprise).

We ate in the restaurant and the service was horribly slow. We had the lamb which was tasty but 30 minutes for dessert is unacceptable. Breakfast was typical trough style buffet for the masses. We had a pina colada in the bar which was honestly the worst I have ever had. It was a sour expensive mess.

A pair of my shorts were ruined as there was bleach on the counter that wasn't properly wiped (I placed them there for a shower). Not a big deal but had they been expensive, it would have been annoying.

In room movie? Expensive and avoid unless desperate. Same as the restaurant - be warned.

I am conflicted about Hamilton Island in general. The (only) beach area is not great and unless you are there for adventure sports (including the Great Barrier Reef), I would recommend a different island. It kind of reminds me of the Las Vegas. Once you pull back the curtain, it is just a cheap money grab. Not a relaxing resort feel to the island.

My husband and I enjoyed a relaxing week exploring Hamilton Island. We found this hotel to be within minutes walking distance from the beach and had access to several swimming pools. The view from our room (on the 5th floor) was breath taking. The general mode of transportation on the Island was electric golf carts and this added to the peacefulness. I would recommend the reef view hotel to couples or family's and would be happy to stay again.

Hi Robyn H

Thank you for your review & for spending the week with us.

The golf carts are a much loved feature of Hamilton Island and certainly make it easy to get around.

Thank you again & we hope you and your husband can return soon.

Warm regards

Requested higher level room and level 13 was awesome. View is amazing. Truly worth every penny for reef ocean view. Room service great. Room is spacious and a great size and close to town (10 min walk). Side note -first time to Hamilton and it is great setup. From airport transfer to free shuttle buses to organising day trips, everyone is friendly and accommodating. A great place to chill out. Reef View Hotel is the place to stay.

I stayed at Reef View for 3 days and nights and was disappointed by the room's condition and amenities given the price.
The staff were very friendly and nice, but the room had never been dusted it seems and the bathroom was definitely not cleaned before our check in. The bathroom was missing basics like a cotton buds, and tooth brush/paste, and bathrobes.
The room itself had a amazing view, we were on level 11 so we had a wonderful view of the reef, but the furniture was covered in dust it seems.
I would probably stay elsewhere if i go back, but the staff i must say were very nice to interact with.
They do however charge you credit card fee's without telling you during your online booking. I ended up downgrading my room, yet the higher credit card fee was still charged. I then called to ask why, and the clearly young girl who answered said 'oh well its not that much difference'. As if this is a answer.
They still have a way to go before reaching the service and standards of international hotels.

We ate at their breakfast buffet which wasn't great either, given the price they charge. There was so much variety but nothing tasted remotely good. I don't think they had a chef cooking, maybe just young inexperienced staff?
The whole island seems to be run by young people traveling and working at the same time, which is a good thing i guess but you just don't get the service that Hilton, or Stanford, or Shangri-La offer.

Overall a lovely place to holiday, but expensive less than good tasting food (regardless of where you dine).

Room Tip: You can get a better deal if you book through the last minute specials tab on the hamilton island we...
